Nice hunt this morning with Ross. I loaded AJ with Curly to catch. Ross brought Boggie and a young dog with his pit Obama to lead in. We hit a peanut and hay-grazer field before daylight. No pigs in the peanuts yet. So we headed off to the sand and shinnery south of Turkey.

We roaded around a circle of cotton and then off to the pasture. Dropped the three strike dogs at a feeder near water. All three dogs rolled out hard, made a few loops and circled back to the north, they were winding and working fast. They circled a big oak mott and worked into it. I heard AJ and Boggie each bark one time. They hit up immediately and caught the boar, AJ and Boggie are nearly straight up catch dogs, no running hogs on their watch. I couldn't hear any grunting or squealing but I could see the big oaks in the middle of the mott shaking and snapping back and forth about 6 feet so I knew we had a big one. I yelled to Ross to send Curly and to get Obama there quick.

Curly hit the oak mott at speed and hit the boar hard, Obama was close behind. We had a caught hog, and he was a big boy. One small cut to Boggie, everybody else had no damage. Nice hunt.

Thanks,
Paul T

Marvin, I really wish I had had Adora as well for this boar, but she is in heat and off for a little while.

Wow nice hog. I can honestly say those big athletic boars usually break at least once on mean and my turd herd before we shut them down, or they dump the dogs off on a sow or smaller boar....Great job.

How are the dogs bred that struck, barked once & caught/held that boar?

Great Job

My AJ dog is straight Catahoula.

Boogie is a crossbred dog, bred for catching cattle, he is Catahoula, Montian Cur, Lacy, and some bulldog.

Thanks thats good to know, to not have that sob break once or dump dogs off is hard to do, very respectable IMO
