Now am not for sure but I thought I might bring this up maybe some folks can use it to help themselves the next time they go to breeding are buying a good catch dog.

As with anything there is different styles and if you watch some of these catch dogs you will notice the same thing which am sure some have and some have not and could care less.

I think most of agree we want a catch dog on the ear and some may like the snout but most will agree that is a lot more dangerous spot to be on cause it is the business end of the hog.

Here is were most catch dogs make their mistakes and that is when they are trying to fight the hog they will be shaking and trying to fight the hog like a boxer trying to get all fancy and this is a mistake that will get most cut are killed.  A lot of times technique and skill is way better and productive than brute force.

What I want and look at in a great catch dog is his holding power and his hard hard bite  not his roughness are how bad he is shaking .  I want my perfect kinda catch dog to hit the hog like a freight train then I want him to latch on like a vise all with speed quickness and great agility .   Then I want him to anchor down like a hunk of lead and lay and lean into the hogs side keeping control of the hog . We always use two catch dogs on each side of the head I believe this helps the whole crew when it comes to avoiding injuries to all the dogs.  At this point I want all my dogs to jump in and help except maybe my main find dog I try to keep them out of the mix just because of the obvious don't want them getting cut are killed of course not all are gonna do it .

Most people would say o no I want my find dog to be rolling over and gone looking for another one while the catch is going on and yeah I have had some of those dogs and got one are two here now but I tend to like my dog their in the mix  and leave when I holler get a hog .  I guess when you get a little older you will tend to understand this .  I have had dogs that was hell to catch and you would be their all nite long chasing them to try and get them stopped and I have been in bad places to were if you didn't catch them you were fixing to be on the wrong property  and in for a long long nite of worry .

Anyway this is what I look for in a catch dog and they are out there and I know there is a breeder are two that have instilled these traits into genetics .
