i had the oppertunity to make a trip with some friends a few weeks ago down to Big Spring,TX.

i never knew there were so many stickers in the world.

anyway, we had made a couple of turn outs and came up empty. so we loaded up and hit a another spot, me and Mikey were riding horses and Steven and the land owner were carrying the catch dogs in the ranger. we had 5 curs on the ground and headed up a creek bed and the other guys went around the road and we were to meet up on the other end. we got about 100 yrds up the creek bed and the dogs were up ahead about 200yrds when i heard JR open up and pretty qiuck all the dogs were there. we rode up on the bay and saw a really nice boar. i looked at my garmin and the catch dogs were 900 yrds from us in the buggy, Steven finally checked his garmin and figured out we were bayed and started our way.  we got to watch a really good bay for about 10 minutes till the catch dog got there and sealed the deal..

i had a great time but i am still pulling thorns out of me, my horse and my dog from that trip.  Grin

Very nice hog there Craig, Big Springs are is known for its south Texas like brush.  Looks like yall found a good west Texas specimen to catch!  That dude had some pretty good fangs on him!  How was the horseback riding out there?  Did you take any scenery pics?

Matt
10 hours..    all the dogs hit the ground and took off like a streak for about 20 yrds, then they all stoped in there tracks and went to bitting at there feet pulling thorns out.
my horse had cactus thorns sticking out of his legs, he would sneak around and if a limb touched his leg he would almost stop in his tracks.
Pepper is on stand by im gona ride this new bay horse this winter.

I got ya, I was thinking that was your bay horse that you work cows off of.

Those cholla (choya) cactus that look like a sausage link are pretty interesting.  They break off in small segments and are EXTREMELY painful.  I have seen then attached to tires, dogs and even cows noses (which is pretty interesting to watch I might add).  I had a small segment on the back of my hunting boots once and did not know it.  Well while walking I knelt down to look at what I thought was an arrow head and when I got back up I rocked back on my heals and burried that piece of cholla in my right ass cheak!!  It hurt so bad I thought I was gonna throw up.  Mind you I have thick Carhart pants on and this thing has gone through the double layer pocket area.  I tried to pull it out and I couldnt so I finally had to run my hand down inside my drawers and push from that direction till it let go and then took pliers to remove it from my pants. After that I dont think I have even walked by one where I dont think about how bad they hurt haha

The prickly pear have their own annoyance in that the big spines hurt but the small hair like fibers that you don't even notice initially cause severe pain and irritation days after they are in your skin and easily go through blue jeans.  Just another reason to love Texas I guess  Grin

Thank you Craig. I like the old stuff myself. It's neat to think what it's done and where it's been in its lifetime.

Matt
that explains alot Mikey's hores got a segment of that stuck on his hip right beside his tail and he was kicking like crazy at it, Mikey had to get off and take a long stisk and knock it off.
