I posted on here bout 6 months ago about having sciatic nerve pain. I went to the doctor and did all the stretches and stuff with no real improvement. Well it progressively got worse until it went all the way out last Thursday. The pain I felt before I thought was bad,  but now it's the worst pain I have ever felt and no position is comfortable. I haven't been  to work in a week.

I had an MRI on Wednesday, and it showed a herniated L-4, and L-5 disk. Anyone here ever have something similar? If so, how did it work out for you? I meet with an orthopedic specialist on Tuesday to see what he has to say, but me being me, i am not real optimistic. I am willing to do everything I can to avoid surgery, but from what I have researched on the  web, it doesn't sound real promising.

Just throwing a line out there to see if anyone else here has been through something similar.

My dad had the same problem. He also wanted to avoid surgery so he did everything possible to stay away from it. In the end though he ended up getting the surgery because the pain kept coming back today and now he says he wishes he would have just had surgery from the get go. It was a day surgery and in three days he was back driving over the road and hasn't had any problems since then. And that was about four years ago.

May 2005.  Had a accident , never had a back problem in my life till them.  Herniated all five of my lower lumbar dics at one time .  L1, L2,L3,L4,L5 all at once L3.L4,L5 were all protruding also ,  Had Left spinal stenosis , Right and Central Stenosis.  Stensosis is , you have a hollow space in your spinal cord were all the nerves run threw it as well as your spinal cord , stenosis is were your dics is pushing into that space and it pinches the nervers either on the right left are center .  Also I hair line cracked my L5 vertebrae.  Went threw pure hell for 18 months all kinds of therapy could not hardly walk to the mail box durnin this time .  Then between 18 and 36 months it started to get better.  I have pain  most of the time I have to b very careful what I do and how I do it one slip up and Aim down for a week at a time worse damn pain I ever had in my life. Over this period of time from then till now I have Osteoarthritis in every section and segment of my lower lumbar spine is what the last MRI revealed .   They all wanted me to have surgery I said no not till i cant walk then ya ll cant screw me up anymore than I am already.

Correction,

Stensosis is , you have a hollow space in your spinal cord .

Not your spinal cord but your  your back bone were all the nerves and spinal cord run.

Use to love a good fight needless to say I dont fight no more I just pick up my gun.

Lmao.

Dam, Tex,  Did all that damage heal up or you just live with the pain? Hog huntin don't make the pain flare up ?

Halfbreed do you have the Osteoarthritis in there as well ?

I got hurt on the job due to a idiot on a dozer that didnt know how to operate it had pure hell with them trying to fight it went to court three times won all three times and had Dr's there as well testifing I got hurt in May and didnt get the first MRI till Feb nine months later well during that time the cracked vertbera healed wrong and developed a whole ring of Osteoarthritis all the way around it and then it spread into eacy joint in my lower lumbar the Dr's testifyed that if I would have had the proper treatement right after it happened I would not have been in the shape I was .  It was a damn mess man before it was all said and done there were over 15 suits that lost there jobs behind all of this including the safety man that was over the whole state of Texas for that Company !

jimco

I went threw hell man !  Most of it healed on its on with help from the good Lord I guess.  Yeah man I have to be really really careful what I do and how I do it. Pain aint the word back then!  Neurologist's told me the only reason I was able to get threw it with out surgery was that my back muscles were so strong they were taking up the slack and compasating for all the messed up things dics and things in my back.  Told me during that nine months when my L5 was cracked if I had slipped and fell are had another bad blow are something it could have cut my spinal cord and either died are been parlized for life .  I dont know how I made it to tell you the damn truth .

Mod, I hope you can avoid the surgery. I know they are making progress by leaps and bounds with orthopedic surgery so it's pretty routine
surgery today.

mod93dirt

How long have you had this ?  It took me about 18 months before mine actually started to feel better with a ton of thearpy and from 18 months on it seemed to have gotton better and better so that I could live with it .   It takes a long long time I guess with out surgery you will learn what you can and cant do .  I have seen way way to many people go under the knife and just be messed up for life once they start cutting on your back thats why I was determinded not to do it.  I know two here were I live and I told them not to do it if they can help it they done it anyway and they are 25 times worse now I only know of a one are two that done it and it helped a lot so I guess its just a chance you have to take if you want it .  I hope you get better if I can help you anyway on question just let me know .

I have a herniated L4, and bulging L5 and S1...Went through 4 months of therapy last year and seemed like it wasn't helping.....They decided to try traction and after to excrutiating sessions I started to get better.....I still have to watch myself and not try to be He-man, but still get along pretty good with just a flare up every now and then.....
