People get all beside themselves with names like strike dogs, baydogs, and should this one do this and that.  It's pretty simple to me.  I have HOGDOGS and catchdogs.  My hog dogs do it all except catch the hog, and sometimes they even do that.  And if they don't fit that description, that's simple to.  They're CULLS.

I reckon I am old school...when talking hog dogs a bay dog is a cull to me...A good strike dog is a hog dog...he/she can wind, trail, range, stick with the track until the hog is bayed... then does his/her best to keep it there...sometimes will catch the hog or just keep it there until the hog is shot or caught with the bulldogs...if the dog relays is ok and if he doesn't it is ok... because I know this dog can and will find the hog once he starts the track...relaying means I am not in control...not relaying means I can leash up the dog if I am ready to go home...

Come on guys.... I've seen a catahoula that was a good strike dog. Took a track to the end and stayed hooked. I mean he was only an eighth cat and was yella with a black mask but that's beside the point laugh

We expect our dogs to be able to track. I prefer a dog that hot trails. My thinking is that if the dog can't track a hog, then how on earth are they ever going to find one?
