my redbone bmc cross has been doing really well these past few months.. been finding some pigs on his own,, he is around a year old, he has never been open on track .never even made a sound on track, well saturday morning took him out with a buddy of mine who has some bmc dogs that r not open either, but for some reason my dog decided to open on track a few times, i know that there were pigs right by us somewhere because the other dogs were going nuts as well but never opened and when my dog opened i knew he had a pig until we saw him barkin on the track with no pig in sight... my question is do u think that the signs were that fresh and he just couldnt work it out. or should i get used to him being open,,, he would bark three or four times then get quiet everytime...it just seemedd like he made it a little tougher to catch the pigs that day...

He's probably opening becuase other dogs are getting ahead of him. If he's started, go ahead and get used to it.

i have a mtn cur/bmc cross that will do exactly what your sayin.  after watching her for the last month, she only opens on track when my older dogs get to far out in front of her while working the track, i assume due to the fact that she doesnt work a track as fast.  she is only 14 mos old, but if she is still doing at 2 yrs of age i WILL get rid of her because she def makes it a little harder to catch hogs that arent withing 100 yds or so.  she is silent when she is doing things on her own, so hoping she learns to work fast enough to keep up or surpass the older dogs.  good luck
