I would have to see the cut...but my guess is that it is a muscle/flesh wound on the shoulder...I never stitch those type of cuts...I use cut heal 3 times a day and then cut back later to 2 times a day until healed...

Keep pouring the pen to him for several days as well to knock out infection. If he can lick it and it isn't protruding organs...it will be just fine as stated above by Rueben.
