If you haven't had them walk on you just keep hunting & it will happen!   Or maby they aren't ruff maybe just bay breakers & they leave running!

They only "steady" walk if the dogs let them. Those dogs are culled by five months of age on my yard Wink

You know at five months if a dog can stop a rank boar?
By the time they reach 5 to 6 months, I've got a pretty good idea of which dogs are going to be "rough" enough to work for me Wink By that age, my dogs will have had multiple oppurtunities to have proven themselves "in the woods".

5-6 months old, ive seen gritty pups... But never been able to predict the future from a 5-6 month old pup to decide if he or she has got it... You mind teaching me this forecaster you have accumulated

I'm glad to hear I'm not alone! The two dogs on this hog both bay tighter and rougher than I really prefer, so it surprised me that he didn't set up and find a spot to bay. I'll let y'all know when I catch him!

Warrant, You must have it all figured out, I would like to buy one of them hog stoppers. Never have a bay break again I bet!

I had a walking bay that I sent catch dogs too, caught up to the boar as they all made it to some nasty stuff. He had four dogs hanging on him, 150 lbs of catch dogs on his head and about 100 pounds of cur hanging from his rear. We crawled and climbed as fast as we could and they stayed steady pulling away from us till he finally drug them all off after about 700 yards and then he bolted. Finally called the dogs in about 30 min later... its was two summers ago and 85+ degrees. Guess I should have culled all those number 2 eaters... even though they had caught more hogs in ten minuets, than you got pictures of pigs in all 17 pages of your posts... but I guess more than ONE hog in ten minuets aint no wonder either.

Its not polite to tell people or imply to people that they have culls. Just remember, your not the only person on here who can be a dick. There is plenty of us internet hog doggers with culls, who can talk trash.

Levi, I have had this happen with several hogs. I usually hunt looser dogs unless Im hunting with a buddy and were using his rough dogs. I have seen boars walk on rough and loose dogs, that is why I like the leggier catch dogs (and sometimes they don't even work). Fact is, if they wanna walk, trot, run, whatever, they are going to. Are some dogs better at "convincing" a hog to sit down or back up and bay, yes. But every time I have seen one walk like you are describing, it is a big boy with some confidence, usually doesn't care much about the dogs until it gets down to business. I also see them walk more at night than in the daytime, another reason I hate night hunting with my loose dogs. Good luck getting him, let us know how it goes.

in my expeiences these walkers are usually wall hangers. and they have had dogs on em before. seems they just walk till they can get some of the dogs off then when they think they can whip em they go to serious dog wrecking.

At your next bay turn your catch dogs from the truck don't try to walk closer to the bay  just let them go and if there good dog they will get there and stop him  no matter how far it is that's how we hunt it works every time just try it one time bud good hunting

My buddy who has permission to hunt this place cut a bunch of small boars about five years ago on this same property. Some ranch hands told us the other day that they have killed several of them but have been getting game cam pics of a toothy Barr hog that is sure enough big. I'll bet he's our culprit. I just hope we can get him caught before the deer hunters shoot him. Tcolt I think you are right, if they are going to move or bay they will do whatever they want, especially if they know they are bad. This place has been dogged for years, this ain't his first rodeo.

I don't why you wait so long I cull mine as soon as their eyes and if my bulldog aren't catch by the time they are 6 weeks I cull them we can all lie on the computer but I'm ready for one these trash talkers to put there money where their mouth is rather than talk out their butt

X2 or running nothing but bulldogs. if they found, bayed  and stayed with the hog(s), then you can cull them off to me. Hell, I'll even trade you some dogs that stop every hog in the woods no matter what sizer terrai or how rank the hog is........oh wait, they don't exist. Feed what you like and leave know it alls to their jam up 6month old pups.

Yall take it easy on warrent, we just do things a little different in Florida is all.  the guys i huunt with we only put a couple dogs out, and rotate through everyone's dogs throughout the night, but we dont have broken bays, or runners so to speak because most of the guys around here run what yall would call and RCD.  I never heard the term RCD til i got on here, my dogs had dang sure hang one if there are two of them there or they dont stay, not that loose dogs are bad its just not how most of the guys here hunt.  At five or six months old my pups should be actin gritty or i look at other pups,  i dont expect much but if they dont act a little catchy i dont keep them, its just a different style is all.

Well heck I still have yet to hunt off of a horse. I'm anxiously waiting for a few minor details to shift in life and then BAM I'm all in.

Man, when you do you won't wanna go back to a buggy, i can promise you that! We used to hunt horseback 90% of the time and I can't wait til im in position to do it again, they are ny preferred method personally.

we had a walking bay last week also. found where they crossed the river and it was a group of very large pigs. spent 7 hrs trying to close the distance. 300 yrds was as close as we got and i like my dogs too much to send them from that distance in thick brush. at the time we were mad as hell and wanted to trade our dogs for rougher stock.  Has any one else found that your luck stopping hogs gets worse in the summer months. We caught pigs every time out when it was cool but as soon as the heat and foilage came on our luck turned for the worse. Not sure if its dog wise pigs or a change in  conditions but it sure is frustrating.
