If a tournament was set up that had places to hunt designated and drawn. Would folks enter it.

The reason I ask is I have been thinking about an idea of getting as many farmers as possible with hog problems together to have a huge hog killing at one time. If a man got say 25 or 30 farms or areas rangeing around 2k acres with pigs. Divide it into hunting areas and each team draws their area for day one. Do the draw for each day. Also send a man familiar with each farm to aid in area knowledge such as how to get there and to also serve as a person to keep things honest. The farmers could kick in some cash to help the pot and with entry money there should be a healthy pot. This could be a 3 day hunt that in the end could take lots of pigs out.

Would something like this work.

It would keep people honest which would probably scare people off. BUT I think it's a great idea.

My thinking was I could draw from a bigger area. The weigh in would be central location. In this situation the hunters wouldn't know their area but with a guide he can save lots of time for the hunter. The way I would want to do it is probly different than some. In this situation I would have a head count pay out. Then run pay out like most. biggest hog biggest stringer weight and so on. I have been thinking on this for a while and still have a lot of figuring to do.

The purpose of this deal for me would be to kill hogs. Big small dont matter.

Any ideas that would make something like this more appealing would be welcomed. As I said I'm just kinda figuring on this for possibility in a year or so that way I can do it right as possible.

What would happen if the dogs crossed over the property line of the team and bayed on another teams spot or went to someone else's dogs that were bayed. 2000 acres sounds like a lot to hunt and to most it is but there are several people with dogs that cover and leave 2000 acres pretty quick. I like the idea but I can see where it would make for a good tournament or possibly a good fist fight real quick. Its hard for that many people to hunt that close together with out problems. Take 10,000 acres, divide it into 2000 acre sections and put a four man team on each section. That comes out to 20 hunters on 10,000 acres. That's pretty crowded. 5,000 acre sections might be better but you would eventually have problems if every team had long range dogs. JMO.

Most of the farms would probly not border each other. 2000 ac was a rough number. before i could nail down acres i would have to see what farms or properties i could enroll in the comp For instance as u said one farm is 10k acres it could be split in half and the chance of getting together would be real slim due to the fact the split would be a long ways from where u would get on a hog and the way they usually run. To much wide open. Most of the other places that may be included would not be near each other. As far as a hog ur on getting off property. Go get it kill it pick up dogs and return to ur property. As far as ur dogs going to a bay of different group that would probly be dicey. If group 1 dogs had it bayed and group 2 catch and kill I say split the pig. If group 1 has it bayed and group 2 dogs come help bay group 1 kills hog it's group 1s hog. This is an instance where the guides would be a deciding factor.

This is my off the cuff answer.

This is the reason I say still in planning phase. A man needs to have answers for these issues before the hunt.

Just giving food for thought. I love hunting new places, especially if their big, but it would be to far away for me to hunt. But i do like the idea and think it would be good for hunter-farmer relations.  Could open up a lot of hunting land in your area.

The top issues farmers here have with hog hunters is 3 things. 1 is the fact that part of the reason hogs are as bad as they are is because hog hunters hauled bunches of them around turning them out. They all want every hog killed. 2 is u let someone on ur place u don't want anything tore up. I personally have had folks try to go across a rice field with a wheeler that was waist high. 3 is theft. Although most wouldn't steal from the farmer some would if they thought they could get away with it. My idea of putting one of the farmers guys with the hunters should help ease these issues. It would be the job of the guide to ensure all caught hogs are killed and no property is damaged beyond normal accepted amounts. The farmers would appoint there man for their property.
