My gyp broke free and locked to my male catahoula yesterday. I read where Dex can be given to terminate pregnancy... anyone know what the doses are (pills and or injection) Please help

I took my female to the vet within the first 24 hours of locking up, and the vet gave her the shot. I then took her back about 4 weeks later with an infetction and had to have her spayed . almost lost her... the vet said there is always a chance that will happen , and with my luck it did.

I've had the lutalyse shot given to two dogs. Both times it worked, however one seemed like she stayed in heat forever after that then three months later she was in heat again. The other came in heat about four months after. I think it does mess up their cycle a bit.

Dex is pretty much a fast acting steroid used to help a dog recover quicker and shouldnt effect the pregnancy. The shot to terminate the pregnancy is pretty cheap at the vet usually.

I got a shot waiting on me. But they did do a study where Dex does terminate pregnancy and with lesser side effects than the other shots, the vets just dont use it and the links dont break it down into how you should administer it for the proper results Study link is here http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9404290

been told if you want to breed the gyp at later time in her life not to abort pregnancy cause this shot could mess her up. I would ask vet about it

I've got a gyp that was aborted on her first pregnancy and has had two litters since.
