What's the average life span of y'all's "finished" dogs? For me the oldest I've had made it to 7. I know my dogs aren't the best and it seems like real dog men will have some of their dogs for years!!! When I visited Dr. Long he had a couple of dogs on his yard that have made it to 10+ and still going strong.

I know of a CD that started out as being Setxhogdogs dog then he sold it to some friends. He is 12 or 13 I think now he isn't  a pit was some kind of cur not sure what he is. After catching for that long he must be a jam up CD or super lucky lol I don't think they ran vest on him much. He's retired now, name is Dan

I had a couple bird dogs that almost got to vote. But then again they didn't have the job hazards that a hog dog does

been huntin bout  nine yrs  only had one  die  from hog..all  the  questions  on here  are  pretty good  but  hog hunting is too  unpredictable you just never  know  when somethin  might  happen.    ive  been pretty fortunate myself.

i dont think a hog dogs age has much to do with his ability to hunt.  i retire my dogs when they get to the age when they start getting cut up alot. They never loose the abilty to find a hog or bay a hog.  they just loose the speed to get the hell out the way from a set of cutters or just cant take the summer heat and stroke out.  most of the old dogs i have had get killed for this reason if i dont retire them or sell them first

Thanks for the answers! I wasn't saying anything about ability just curious of the age of the oldest dog on your yard.

I'm not 100% sure I understand you but I have to disagree with what I highlighted.........apparently my version of good and your version of good ain't the same............. I have a male thats 9yrs old that still produces hogs pretty consistently, multiple guys on this site can vouch for him and in my eyes he is a GOOD dog......wish I had 4 more exactly like him just younger............
