Ok guys I have a gyp around 7 months old I showed her a hog when she was 3-4 months and she didn't show interest but I figured she was to young so about 5 months I took her on a mock hunt the other dogs found the hog and started baying she ran in and never barked just ran around so a couple weeks later I took her hunting with my old dogs she would run with them for a little while and come back then she would go out a couple hundred yards by herself hunting I've took her in the woods three more times since then and she is starting to work by herself more then today I got a pig on a piece of muletape and she just laid down then I hit her with the hog and she kinda yipped at it but that so the thing os I take her to the Woods and she junta by herself gokd for her age but show her a hog and she wants nothing to do with it im just wandering uf yall hace Ayn ideas for me to get her baying

Some dogs just start late, I've got to where I like early starters, especially ones that cure real quick cuz I'm hard on dogs. Have you tried seeing if she'd bay on a shoat that was squealing. Some pups it takes alil squealing or a rough dog and alil blood in their mouth to get them excited.

I had one that.way I put in.the.pen.with a big.hog.let.it whoop her up pulled.her out.left.her where she.could see.MT.big dogs work the pig.well turned her loose and was a finished find dog soon after boy she hated a hog after getting hit. But alot of hunt will broking.her around and lot of.mock hints with a lead dog.to guide

Guess I will be the odd man out on this one.  No secret I am not a "Late Bloomer" fan. So it may show in my opinion below. If the pup has been shown a pig in...and out of a pen along with older dogs baying....and she still doesn't want any part of the action.......I am looking for another pup that I dont have to beg to bay. The very lowest level of training for a stock dog.......is just simply baying....so much has to come together afterwards in order for it to be worthy of feeding. 7 months old is young......but not to accomplish the one trait that she should naturally be born with. I have never been able to train prey drive into a pup. They got it......or they dont. Not to discourage......but plenty of 7 month olds and younger that will bay till they slober on their bellies cause they cannot stand due to fatigue. Spend your time and money on one that impresses......not one that your always making excuses for because it simply don't cut the mustard. Hope you get her lined out either way bud. Good luck.  |

there's dogs that start late but most lightly it a cull/our a help dog, i'm all about starting pups early i make dogs learn really Early like my pups theses cat pups i have now they will be 4 weeks on Sunday an they already are barking already at a shape of a hog an smell with a pig grunting ,, so that's dogs i for sure will make something .. but yours my come around bud im just not big on late bloomers but don't get it wrong i have gave some good rcds away that i wish i didn't... lol keep her around a pig she will turn on...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...
A hunting dog is born not made...

Naw, I judge mine from 1 to 2... always have, always will.
If I went by what 6 and 7 month old pups did, I wouldn't have a dog on my yard.
