He is too young, his adult teeth are barely in his head yet.

maybe around nine months depending if the dog is very mature for age, bUt most of my dogs don't start catching much until closer to a year old. If you are wanting him to be a solid catch then I would not put stress him before 10 months, JMO

When he is older you can put him on a big hog and he will probably not regrip like he is doing on the small one, he is just playing around with it.

I don't mind feeding small hogs to dogs as young as 3mnths(nothing bigger than the dog), just seems to keep them fired up from day one... may not be necessary, but it helps me in my selection process... Like Krystal said, don't ask him to hold anything big till he's good and over a yr, or you'll lose his teeth at an early age and you'll have nothing. ... Oh yeah, he'll hold on better when he has to eventually... hopefully

He is probably playing with that little hog like silverton said, by 8 or 9 months he should be able to handle a 100# hog... at least, especially at 50 pounds... give him a challenge, let him see what can happen if he dont hold, get one big enough to rough him up a little, he will get down to business then..
