Kept screwing around this morning and got a real late start. Didn't get Jasper on the ground till noon. But it was still only 74 or so...not bad.
This wasn't a 1 out hunt... He ain't that kinda dog...so... I had young Emmet the CD on lead.
I decided just to walk the woods near the creek/river intersection so I started from the North end and used the SE wind to my favor.
Jasper has NEVER solo hunted before. He always had at least my Bella gyp with him. I figured I would leave Preacher the hound pup at home and just see how it went. Well...we hit the trees and Jasper was hanging pretty close. He would keep looking back at me and I'd keep sending him up. I eventually just stopped in a shady spot and waited. He finally started getting out... But not real far... about 100 yards or so.
We kept walking...crossed the creek right at the intersection....then crossed the river (it's basically a creek in this area ). Kept hunting into the wind. Finally...an hour or more into the walk Jasper actually started hunting...getting out and covering the woods. He'd go out...cover a section...check back...and I'd move up. This lasted about another 30 minutes or so and then I got a bark.
I wasn't entirely sure it was a pig at first..I had seen some armadillo in the area but Jasper hadn't trashed to this point. He was about 150 out so I eased in and I saw him on the other side of a dry wash looking into some deadfall and barking sporadically. Then he turned and looked at some tall grass and started a steady chop. I couldn't see ANYTHING so I crossed the wash to him and saw a pig break...it was small. Jasper gave chase and stopped the pig only about 40 yards away so I unsnapped Emmett. I heard the hit and there wasn't any squealing but I knew he was caught.
I moved in and the pig saw me and started at me with Emmett on his ear. He was only about 75-80 lbs but a fighting little rascal. He made it into the wash and Jasper latches on too. I gave him 1 quick poke and waited. Jasper let go and was just getting ready to roll out. Well... the pig must of been playing possum because he started moving again and took Emmet over the creek bank and Emmett lost him. Jasper got back on him and they stopped him for good about 75 yards away. My 1 poke must not have hit the pump house.
Anyway....they got him stopped and I stuck him again. That put him down for good.

It was really pretty warm by this point so I called it and pointed the dogs back towards the truck.
Not a bad hunt...about 2 hours and a little pig. Beats a stick in the eye.
