You know I have come to this conclusion about hog dogs. I see people looking for BMC's, Cat's, Fla Cur's, Saddle Backs, Ladner Cur, Mountain Cur and the list is just endless. Well in my eyes it is not really the breed that matters . I mean you can get a dog from a man that works his dogs and uses his dogs and has for years, it may be some kind of mixed up dog from A to Z and this man has a good bunch of dogs and is known for a good bunch of dogs with good turn out percentages. Then you can go pay big dollars for some big time well known this are that and it has Ole so and so in there fifty five times on paper and is great bred on paper and the dog does not turn out . What matters in my mind, is does the man use his dogs himself are is he just breeding to be breeding and breeding paper not dogs there is a big big difference. Its not the breed that matters , its were that dog comes from and its how many hogs you feed this young dog and the time you take to see to it that this young dog is in the woods and is eating as many tracks as you can possibly put in front of him. It also has a lot to do with the man that is working the young dog . What does he know I have seen it that the young dog knowns more than its owner and the dog should be training the owner not the owner training the dog. Now that is not to hurt any feelings that is just simply the truth and if somebody gets offended by that then you might need to go look in the mirror. I think what matters is a man needs to get a dog from dogs he knows works and that the line is still working these days and not living off the past of its heritage. Heritage is a great great thing but that heritage that is back three four five six gens is worthless if the dogs in the front have not proven themselves like the great grandpas and grandmas , the grand paws and the grand maws , and the daddy's and the mommas. I mean you cannot live off the past if the present is not working ! Breeds are just preferences of the owner that's it , after that it is were the dog comes from and what that dogs past was and what the present is . The past is dead and gone, its what is living that counts, the here and now and the past only becomes relevant if the present is good . Anyway this is just my opinion and hope it does not offend anyone.

^Truth. You see it happen all of the time, people will breed for a dogs name and forget about breeding for the traits needed to get the job done.

my new pack I like...they won't breed true to what I would like...but when I breed a dog I am looking towards the future...for improvement...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...

being new thats why i like the breeding, training and working posts. with anything u gotta put the time in. i am a mechanic by trade and my first boss told me, " if anybody ever tells u they haven't ever made a mistake on a car, or broke something, they r lying or don't work on cars.!

I completely agree with you, but I am one of those that like a full blooded dog. its not the fact of "oh yeepee ive got papers on my dogs" but its just my preference to have full blooded dogs. I could care less who's in the pedigree and with today's large amount of dog peddlers trying to sell pound mutts as black mouth curs, catahoulas, or whatever, you cant trust anyone these days to tell the truth about what they have. and I agree, when its all said and done, the only thing that matters is that the dog hunts. so for me its just a preference. just like a real apple iphone and a china replica, they both do the same thing, and the china replica might be cheaper, but I still want the real apple iphone.but none the less, a hog dog is a hog dog no matter what the breed.

I agree Woody not a thing in the world wrong with owning full blooded Reg dogs and there are some great ones . Were the problem lies is when people are just breeding dog names instead of good dogs themselves. Of course that applies to every kind of performance animal pure are crossed.

I know what you mean, now a days if you talk to a breeder, they talk about what was in the blood 30 years ago. But they fail to mention they bred crappy huntin dogs the last 15 years. It's a gamble, but there's certain things I look for in a puppy, and before I hand money over, I like to see how they act being out of the kennel for a couple hours. That way I can see how each pup really acts. Still have culls, but that's part of the game.
