Decided I'd make a run today in case it rains tomorrow. I dropped young Preacher, Bella and her daughter Abby and started driving into the wind. A herd of cows was trailing me.....the dogs know not to trash but it was still a pain.
I drive around a bit and see Preacher hit a trail and take off. About 15 seconds later he opens up and Bella and Abby head to him. I turned Zeus out of the box, hoping it was a big running boar that is like to stop. Well....Bella ends up meeting me halfway back....that pretty much told me it was a deer. It wasn't to bad though....Preacher only took it about 500 yards or so. I get the dogs heading up the road and the cows aren't with me anymore so I head to the area they WERE originally at.....the area I wanted to start at.
Preacher and Bella both get piggy and head into the brush. Bella is the one to open up followed quickly by Preacher. Preacher was really screaming and Zeus and Abby were on their way but the bay broke. The dogs spent the next 15 minutes chasing shoats in this thicket.
Finally Preacher slips out the back side and takes off....wide open. It takes me about 20 minutes but I gather the rest of the dogs and load them up. I head up the road to Preacher. He's about a half mile away and showing treed.
I drive within 150 yards, and kill the engine. Sure enough....I hear the big beautiful bawl. I grab Emmett and dump the box to Preacher. Well.....the other dogs get there and immediately there's squealing. No big boar today. I close to 50 and unsnap Emmett just for good measure.
It was a little sow about 70-80lbs. Looked like she was bred.

I probably could have got the dogs back on the sounder but I was happy and decided to end on a good note......besides.....I'd be getting back out in the morning.
