Called a guy about a $500 hound and asked if I could have a trial or even him show her in the woods. Told me it would cost a 1500 for trial and won't show her. So my question is how many think that it's ok to charge more for a dog to show or trial? In my opinion it's like a car salesman charging more to test drive a car.

If it was a $1500 dog, he wouldn't sell it for 500$.. Bad deal waiting to happen..

if he called you back willing to show the dog I would go and check it out .  I wonder what number you were in the call dept. ?  running an add and trying to sell a hound these days is one aggravating experience . people expect a person to jump through all sorts of hoops to let them check a dog out , just to say well i'll think about it and get back to ya   lol  .  if you are not carefull you will spend a ton of money on phone bills and gas and still have the dog   lol   he may of just been having a bad day .

Yea I understand someone just saying they won't show a dog but charging a 1000 more to show is another. I know there are plenty of tire kickers out there. Your gonna get that anytime your selling anything. I think I was one of the first if not the first according to how soon I called. I'm not saying he is a crook. Just think he realized what I was saying is why he changed his mind.

You could end this thread with that comment. Nothin else needs to be said. You hit the nail right on the head.

Trials don't mean anything anymore. You can take a dog with the understanding that you have 2 weeks to try the dog out with a cash back guarantee. You take it hunting a couple of times and all it does is roll in the grass and when you call the guy his number is disconnected. The only good way to buy dogs is through people you know and trust or having the seller show him. If he does what he's supposed to pay the man and take the dog home. If not you aren't out any money for a cull. Too many people selling culls and pound dogs just to make a buck. Just my $.02
