Oh yea jdt, Iv seen my owls sitting in the willow tree in the middle of the day. I have only counted 3 different Owls, or at least that have unique features that allow me know which is which. No as for the Hawks, I can I'd 4 different, but I'm sure there are probably 2x what I don't see flying around. I did build my coop between a dog on a chain and my elevated kennels, so I'll see how that goes as far as keeping the car it's away and if need be, shock my yeller devil cur off chicken and pen him up with them.
Now for the hog topic, iv got 5 feral hogs in my pen, 1 used to live inside the house with me till she got to big for the bed and went outside. SO, keeping them alive is no problem. Only bad thing with Durocher are, iv already got 3 red hogs, and 2 blonde hogs. I'm wanting to breed more blonde 1s, and throwing in a Duroc will just favor the red more with every litter. I was thinking of a blue butt or a hamp, but I will cross out with what ever I can get my hands on. If bacon wasn't so lean, I'd think she was a feral Duroc as red as she is, but she don't fill out like a domestic does, which is what I would prefer over the color of their hair. When I said how that would affect raising a domestic with feral, I was referring to him defending himself during breeding season from the feral boar that has 3" cutters, and if the domestic would start showing feral traits and if so, how long would it take to show. Hell, bacon has become highly irritable this past wk, which I think may be bc she is possibly pregnant. She is playing hell on the other 3 sows and sometimes the boar.

I get a mulefoot or a red wattle or both sometimes to raise and have always wanted to cross some wild hog into it. But it never. fails some idiot with a cooler shows up and we end up staying up late and cooking what i want to raise..lol..

Peer pressure is a mofo ain't it? I used to be the same way, but since I quit drinking, my sponatious acts have dwindled way down and even with neighbors close by, I stay to myself and seldom interact with them. Same with being at the hotel during work, I stay to myself and decline invites to hang out with the others. Heck when we went to New Jersey to tear an acft down and get it loaded onto a semi for transport, and then to philly to fly out. Going out and eating meals and hanging around them and then bar hopping in philly was the first time I'd done anything like that since late 09, early 10 whe I got out of the military. I have pretty much isolated myself from others, which tends to be a drag at times, but also keeps me in check at the same time.

True dat..lol...i dont drink that often. Maybe once every couple of months at most. But i cant just have one. Before you know it its 2 am and the old sad country songs are about to bust the speakers and we all think we could win American Idol...hahaha...

Charles, the only time I've seen it done was with a duroc sow and a feral boar. She was let out to go feral and everything was good had a great litter of about 12 that all grew at least 3 times as fast as a normal feral hog.

And as jdt said if your using an old school style of duroc it will take better than these new style short fat bulldog hogs. My father in law has the old school style. He has one of the oldest lines of durocs in America. As far as getting a board I'm sure it would be ok. They may fight at first but that duroc boar will eventually be so big it won't matter. He has boats that are like 7-850#. And the old lines have cutters too! They look like an old ancient wild boar. Google John Brown durocs and you'll see what I mean.

i ain't seen old time hogs like that since i was a kid . they got'em bred so lean now that at 400 lbs they ain't got enough fat to make sausage haha . sambo find out what he would take for 8-10 gilts , i might try a little free range experiment .  |
