Anyone using these on hogs? Using them at all? How do they work on different prey?

Ive been trying to reply but my computer is acting up. I have a buddy that uses them successfully on hogs they make excellent strike dogs, very good at winding hogs. Ive owned and bred them for six years. Ive used them to jump deer and coon hunt, I have one that trees squirrels. they definitely are not quick starters on hogs and much of the gene pool is diluted because of the show dog thing. the best ones you can get are probably from the Decker Hunting Terrier Registry website. I got mine from ellis decker and ely brown, i had to have a few litters of my own before I had some really good ones. I only have one female left and Ive had her on about ten hogs and she still has not turned on to them, shes gritty as hell to, shell grab a wounded buck by the throat and take him down. Ive thought about starting her on some shoats but decided to get rid of my rats, due to their chirping when they are in a kennel, it drives me nuts. I have a female JRT Im going to start on hogs instead. The best ones I know of are not papered and are just bred to hunt hogs

I'm really not too particular about what they hunt , as long as they will hunt. There's all kinds of small game around my area(central NC) and hogs are starting into the area as well. I've got an AB that will catch hogs, and I'd like a couple small dogs for vermin and squirrels( love a good fried squirrel).

youd be better of getting a fiest or rat terrier bred for treeing from your area, I think clan clark deckers is out that way but I think youd have a better shot with a non decker, If you ever decided you have to have a decker, I could get you one line bred for hunting, they are smart enough that you could train them to do anything, but the ones Ive raised arent natural squirrel dogs, except that one I have now, shell hunt anything, Id give her to you, but I already promised her to a guy

I wanted a Decker because I really can't stand tiny dogs, and I've heard too many stories about jagd terriers tring to eat every dog on your yard. So if not a Decker maybe a patterdale?

Hell, I've been using a bulldog for squirrels LOL. She doesn't tree, but if I can wing the squirrel with my sling shot, she'll finish it. If she can catch it over ground, it is done.  as long as the dog has good prey drive, I can work with  them.

If I was you Id get a mountain fiest. these JRTs I have would be good to, excellent line, easy in a kennel, and not yappy, lots of prey drive, great noses, really smart, easy to train, theyre about 20 to 25 lbs

I could see a JRT. I guess I've seen too many "pet quality" JRT's with bad temps. that's why I shy away from them. I guess if I can get a good working JRT I'd probably like it. Just cant seem to get away from white dogs LOL!
