A friend of mine TJ called & invited us to come hunt with him & his buddy Joe. TJ has a contract for killing the hogs off of this 15000 acre island. Big Game Joe & I headed out at 4:00 and it was 27 degrees. By the time we got to TJ's it had warmed up to 32 degrees. Anyway we got started & got over to his hunting spot. Due to some unforeseen boat trouble we did not turn loose until 9:00 am.
We turned loose Amber & Velvet & they trailed out a lil over a 1/4 mile & split. We found Velvet bayed & TJ cut his Catchdog loose & caught a lil 100# hog. We caught up to Amber & she was bayed in some deep water. TJ cut the catchdog loose but the hog broke before she could get there. We got Clyde into her & the race was on. WE caught up to them a couple of miles down & saw them swimming out of the backwater & thought they were coming to us but they blew right by us & kept going. A ways down & we caught up to them bayed. Went in & TJ cut his Catchdog loose but the hog broke again. Caught up to them running along the road a few miles & TJ & Joe cut some fresh dogs in. All the sudden we had dogs going everywhere but Amber was headed back the way she came. Clyde split off from her & got with Joe & TJ's dogs. We heard them bayed & went in & caught a good boar with about 2" cutters.
Dogs rolled out & were headed towards Amber. Thought they were going to have a head on collision but they both kept running their own hogs. Big Game Joe's gyp Katie & Red Gal caught one about 120# or so.
In the meantime TJ's Dad had killed a couple of hogs sitting on a stand that we had drove out & another guy shot a shoat. One of the dogs caught another shoat.
We caught a couple more & picked Amber up around 3 or so & she swam out to us when we called her in.
Went to another spot and found some sign around 4:00 pm. We all turned some dogs loose & Red Gal & Clyde trailed out. Big Game Joe & I were about a 100 yards in the treeline listening when we heard them jump & catch it about three hundred yards in. We got to them & killed a 120# boar & just had a short drag of 120 yards to the next road. Joes plott pup trailed on in there & he made it. No older then that pup is, he is going to make a nice dog when he gets some age on him.
Some of this might not be in the right order but we sure had a great time & hunt with TJ & Joe. Joe's two kids were there & let me tell you, they love the hunting.
We caught 6 with the dogs & 3 were shot.
Thanks again TJ for the invite.
