You better get you a few more Plott dogs down there and start hunting those Man killing bears.

On Monday, one or more black bears killed Robert Markel, an 89-year-old man, along with his dog, in Collier County, according to MyFWC Florida Fish and Wildlife.  This is the first known fatal bear attack in Florida's history.
This attack comes as the FWC is considering restarting regulated bear hunting for the first time since 2015 in response to the rapidly growing bear population.

Mike,
Sadly it was a matter of time. A lady about 5 mile from me got scratched up last week. They have one more meeting in 2 weeks. Then Vote on the season in August. I hate someone lost a life. BUT, Hopefully push this state in the right direction! I need to come, freed and water and clean someones dog pens for a while in SE la and get me a plott bear dog!

I wish they would do something about the gators. One got a lady this week too. I almost lost my plott and 3-4 other dogs yesterday to gators. I mean they were watching and swimming down the canals just daring the dogs to touch the water. The hogs were even wary of swimming the canals for them. Ive never seen anything like it.

That’ll take the fun out of hunting when you gotta worry like that all the time. It can can have an impact on a breeding program too if a person doesn’t have a pile of close related dogs. We’ve had a couple of invites lately but have been hesitant to go because of the gators. Losing one to a gator wouldn’t settle well with me.

As for the bears, I hope they allow y’all a season. All wildlife needs to be kept in check. If not we all know what happens. The attacks are just one of many. Put you a little border collie in those dogs and you could just circle up a whole bunch of Bear’s at one time and bring them right to your covered stock trailer. You’d have stories and songs written about you for ages.
