A few pics would be nice! Get some extra barrels and cut them in half long ways then cut them two peices in half...now you have 4 quarters, put that on top of your barrel were it over hang the front a good bit and w/ the top and bottom of you new roofs you will have a good cover over the front of your barrels. I used do do mine like that but over the years I have gathered a bunch of dog igloos from the classified, flea markets, yard sales etc. I don't haev a pic but does that make sence?
Good for me.... keep an eye on craigs list, flea markets etc. I pick them up for an average of 20 bucks...I put a board at the bottom of the door in winter to keep in bedding...when it gets real cold or I have pups in one I will screw a flap over the door w/ a peice of carpet...they stay very warm that way...I have a coupple shaped like dog houses and then the igloo shaped ones.
thanks underdog... was beginning to wonder how i was going to keep the hay in the barrels this year. all my dogs kick it out. the carpet flap thing would work on some dogs and the others would probably chew it all up. I've thought about that already. just hadn't done it yet, but was going to use plastic that way i could kinda see inside. thanks again for the advice.

hey nice pics guys... i like how you built a little top deck for the dog. mine always wants to get on top of the freakin' barrel. this morning my bluetick was in the front yard eating my garbage i don't know how she jumped the fence, but she hung herself and came out of her collar. thank gosh...i guess im gonna have to stake her out futher since she is the only dog that does stupid crap like that. thanks for the pics and ideas!!

Does anyone use those barrels that are elevated on a swivel? I saw those once at a guy's place for his cowdogs. The wind would blow the barrels around so that no blowing rain could get in them. The dogs were chained to the body of the swivel mechanism.
We use a dogloo in our kennel outside the barn. It is on an elevated platform and the dogs spend most of their time on that platform. I can't figure out what it is, but for some reason dogs prefer to be elevated. We have a stack of cedar pickets in the barnyard right now. My aussies who run loose all sleep on the pile. Even my old 13 year old with arthritis manages to get up in the stack.
Cheers M
