Went to a spot we sometimes run the hogs to and loose them this week. Usually don’t hunt it because it butts up to a big island. I had my gyp flash her trashy brother redman and my hound slick, with my buddies dogs Pete(is brothers to flash and redman) and his other dog Willie. First cast they hunted good but we never did strike anything. We decided to move a 1/4 mile down to where they usually have the gate closed but now is open for hunters. Red and flash started a deer race pretty quick and thankfully this time they ran it across the road and I got to work  with them on it. Especially after we drove by the track again they got it jumped back up pretty quick. After that the dogs never did strike from the road and we got to the dead end where it meets the lake. Not a very long road at all. I went ahead and pushed them toward the water so they could grab a drink and maybe get another cast in. From on top of the hill probably a hundred yards away we could see all five nose down tails wagging. Finally my hound opens. Lakeside the dogs went one way and to the other in a hurry. We ran down real quick to see the tracks and they were about dip canned sized. By the time we checked that out they were bayed 350 yards away ina hell of a thicket. So we ran back up hill to grab the catchdogs and went back toward the lake for some easier walking. We no more than get to the bulldogs and it brakes. Straight to the lake we run back to shore and we see him motor boating across with no land in site. I almost thought he was just gonna keep going. Several dogs in tow with Willie right behind him. My three buddies and I were sitting there watching this play out until we realized which way he was going. I told them I was gonna go cut him off it was making me nervous watching them tread all that water and swim. dogs can swim for a long time surprisingly but still. I get to running down the bank trying to keep up to where this hog is going to come to the bank at. we finally get to that point. All the dogs had done swam back to shore. I met him about ten yards off the bank when he came out. Little sharp shooter juked my catchdog the first time but got him ran down 150 yards or so later. I hurry up to him and get him caught and about tied till I realized half a dozen dogs were probably running towards me and I needed to get my hands out of the way. My friends get there a minute or so later sure enough with the pack. we ended up killing him and got the backstraps. Not the biggest but deffiently a fun one.

Gppd hog. It has always amazed me on how well hogs swim. Down here they swim like fish.

That’s a nice hog. It’s fun to get to see the dogs work like that.
