I got an invite to a small private property, we get there and sweep the premises, it’s all clear. With just a little bit of daylight we drive to the nearest public spot and drop the dogs, they’re really not acting like much is in the area at first. My brindle dog was in the woods to the right of us, while the rest of the dogs were walking right down the road.  We walk about 1/2 mile down this road when the dogs bail into the woods to the left, about that time my brindle dog pops out of the brush on the right and is right with the others.

We get closer and can hear the group grabbed up a bacon bit, and the gps showed them split. Three of the dogs, my brindle dog, Dico Dan and my buddies catahoula gyp are carrying the mail. They finally make a stop about 950 yards, at this time the sun is going down. We leave the dogs to finish off the small fry and head to the other dogs, it must’ve took us a half hour to get there and when we did they had the sow in pretty bad shape. We finished her up and started the process of gathering up the remaining dogs and getting to the truck.

They’re pretty tired and wore out, the young dogs are starting to develop into hunters. The older brindle dog, whom I’ve had for just a couple months, wasn’t really hunting like I knew he could and it was bothering me. Yesterday he seemed to find his swagger again. We saw him go in that strip of woods and didn’t see him again until we got to the crime scene. I’m hoping he’s settled into to his new role here.

Sometimes it takes a minute to settle in. Sounds like he’s fixing to mentor those young dogs though.

I hope so, I know it can be unsettling moving into an environment. That sow ran to a patch of the bamboo grass, that stuff had to be 7’ tall, you couldn’t see anything until you stepped on it.

That bamboo grass is tough. We Georgia Cane around here and man that stuff can really get you and the dogs wrecked.

Yah, we’re just glad it wasn’t a bad news boar, it worked out in the end this time.
