Just a point of clarification on Red Nose Pit bulls.  You see guys saying that they like red noses, or this one doesn't like red noses, etc.  People talk like red noses are a distinct breed of pitbulls, THEY ARE NOT.  Around the late 1800's and through the turn of the century, there were groups of irish imigrants who brought their game dogs to this country.  Alot of those Irish lines had red noses, green eyes, red toenails.  These were sometimes called "old family" or "old family red nose".  They were simply just a linebred family of dogs within the breed, and they were known for gameness.  A handful of breeders prefered these little red dogs over other lines, but they were no better or no worse than any other line.  In the 20th century a few breeders kept these lines pure.  Some of these breeders were Bob Hemphill, Jake Wilder, Bob Wallace, etc; however, these men have been dead for decades, and those lines died with them, and became extremely waterd down after the 1970's.  Today, there are thousands of dogs with red noses, but it doesn't mean they are anything other than bulldogs with red noses.  You see several lines of bulldogs that will throw red noses.  If you breed a red nose to a red nose you will get a red nose, and today it's as simple as that, but those dogs could simply be scatter bred dogs with red noses and nothing more.  You can get red nose dogs and black nose dogs in the same litter as most of you know.  A good example would be: if you take two littermate males (one red nose, one black nose).  You breed the red nose to red nose female and you get red nosed pups.  You breed the black nosed littermate to a black nosed female and you get black noses in those pups.  Now you have two seperate litters, both sires are littermates with the same genetic make-up.  However one litter has red noses and the other litter has black noses.  The guy with the red nosed litter thinks he has something different.  However, the other guy has  litter of all black nosed pups and they are 50% the same gentics as the all red nosed litter.  Get the point?  A good catch dog is a good catch dog period, he doesn't know what color his nose his.  I was at a man's house the other day looking at some catahouls, and he showed me his "red nose pit" and said, "this dog is pure old family red nose".  All that means TODAY is that he has a dog with a red nose.  I'm sure its a good dog, but the nose has nothing to do with the dog's ability to catch hogs.  Some people like Fords, some like Chevys, the color of the nose is nothing more than just what color do you like to look at.

Thank you for the clarification on red dog. I run 100% colby dogs and some colby cross that are Decendent of some of the first Irish dogs brought to the usa. I still keep in contact with the colby family through Lou Colby's son John Colby who's family first imported the dogs in the 1800's. Colby dogs have over 20 generation registered with over 2,097,152 ancestors in 20 generation pedigree.

It really erks me that all these people have these dogs think they know every thing about them but refuse to do any research on their dogs and their family tree. It is nice to see somone agrees with me.

Bob, those hemphill dogs sure are nice. In my opinion, the hemphill line of dogs are some of the best looking I've seen.  I sure would like to see a photo of him.
