Have you tried the local Ag. Extension Agent? Bet they could point you in the right direction.

Most of those jobs are under the Agriculture departments, both state and federal.  Here is Louisiana budegt cuts layed off all our state hog trappers last year.  We had a couple great hog trappers.

On the Federal side of the house, it is the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA/APHIS), Wildlife Services, where you want to look.  They should have a Wildlife Service's State Director for each state listed on their websites for you to contact.  http://ws.tamu.edu/page.asp?o=tamu&s=tws&p=FeralHogs

I believe all their Federal job openings will be on USA JOBs at www.usajobs.gov/

There may also be some trapper jobs at the county level too, depends on need and finding.

Ask some of the big ranchers in the area. They can tell you who that trapper is in the area, and go from there. Heard they don't make much though. Embarrassed

Been tryin' to track down who the "gov trapper" is over here for a while... some of the state land that comes up for contract, must be dropped by whoever has the rights at the time... which, on the properties I'm after, happens to be listed as the "USDA".... funny thing is, no one has ever seen anyone do any trapping off this land.... and even funnier... I just did a big plumbing job FOR the USDA, and upon asking one of their upper management personel about who these "USDA trappers" are, and what they would even be doing with the hogs... he could not find any info on it whatsoever... Brings me back to the "grey area" issue...

Ok, so we have a secret black ops goverment organization that is trapping hogs??

USDA is a chunky self-glorious bureacracy like most of them.  A very small part of is trapping.  Most of it is research into plants and meat inspections.  Your guy may have been so high up and on the other end of the bureau, he was clueless.  See your USDA Wildlife Services State Director.  If that does not make you happy, look no further at the Feds.  Work your way down; State > County > private contractor.  Pay is poor, but hundreds would die to do that work.  Good luck.

i talked to a former goverment trapper recently whos dating my aunt. i was askin him about it and his reason for gettin out was pay. however he seems to think you could make plenty of money in texas working privately for ranchers.
