Yeah, I went out there last night. Almost all of it is cut though, and what's not you cant walk through, its too thick. But, we can hunt all of those tree farms in there also, and a little bit of woods too.

The cane is cut now?? That's what I want to hear... made a hunt down on the east side of the lake a while back and the cane had pulled them completely off the property... we beat 12K acres up on a buggy and not the first fresh track What do they actually do in that stuff anyway? Are they eating the stalks/roots? Had some guys offer to take us cane hunting but the old timers I've talked to said it would ruin your dogs lungs over time, something about the dust/fibers that knock loose as they run through it... wive's tale?

Yeah they eat it, and when it gets big enough they live in it. They feel safe in there. like this spot, its next to a management area, and when that opens up to hunting, it pushes them in there even more.
And those pigs are fat and healthy.
never heard the lung problem thing, but the cain can be bad for a dogs health in other ways.

Noah, cut you off a sugarcane stalk and try it sometime and youll know why they are in there. LOL The hunting is not as good now that the cane is cut, they stay in there when it gets real thick, but its almost impossible for the dogs to run in it. As far as the lung problems I dont know, but I doubt you would do anything to hurt their lungs unless you were running it a couple nights a week.
Anyways, thats where I hunt right on the east side of the lake, were you hunting u.s. sugar?

Not sure whose land it was, we were right on the edge of Seminole land.... strange passing all those wig-wams and monster trucks on the way to hunt.... Big cattle ranch that this guy has guide rights to. Could see the lake birm from the front gate.
So the hogs just bite the cane off and chew the whole stalk up, or do they feed on roots/shoots/etc?
Just learned from the potato farmers around here last yr, a hog won't eat a raw potato... just is after the critters that eat/live around the potato's...

It looks like to me that they eat the stalks, you will just see them bit off at the bottom. Ive cut their stomach open after ive caught them and it is just white inside. Funny thing is I have never seen one bit of rooting inside of the cane blocks, so I know they dont eat the roots.
