new to this forum and im from georgia. been long time since ive been able to get the dogs in the woods with turkey season, work and one of my dogs was in heat for a while. turned out on my property this weekend at nite and early morning. killed three hogs this wknd. and im pretty sure i got the fourth which was a big big boar. had alot of big groups of hogs running around. all the dogs broke off and bayed thier own hog which in turn made it harder for me since i dont hunt with a catch dog and probably lost more hogs due to bay breaking. at one point had my lead on a hog by himself and a coyote packed in with him. kinda wierd the yote took off once i came in with the lights. during the nite the dogs were hunting in the thickest part of my property and i went to check a feeder that hasnt been working for few months. i heard a branch break and figured something had run off. got to the feeder and noticed alot of fresh sign. i told my buddy it was less than a hour old and he said it looked a few days old. at the time i looked up and noticed a big big boar hog right in front of me( i told him it was less than an hour lol). the boar was less than ten yards away. he started chomping his teeth and i pullled the pistol out and shot him point blank range, he jumped up and went right into the thick stuff. as soon i shot the woods exploded with hogs running everywhere. i called the dogs to put them on this big boar but on thier way to me they must jumped another pig cuz they had a bay going 100 yards away. the big boar was chomping at his teeth no more than 50 yards in front of me in the thickest stuff you can imagine. you cant see two feet in front of you its so thick. the big boar was 50 yards from me and 50 yards from the bay. everytime i moved you could hear him turn in my direction just waiting for something to come at him. i hollared for the dogs. finally one came to me but it was my bmc pup. he went in and started baying. the other dogs eventually came in there and got on the big boar. i rushed in and the bay broke (my fault). hog went about 150 yards and the dogs bayed strong and stopped. and than took off on another hog. i found blood but no big boar. i searched all over on my hands and knees becasue i cant walk through the thick vegeataion and i never could find the hog. gonna wait for the buzzards to circle and go in and find him. i figured due to the gun shot he must have expired and the dogs left out after that. never would of shot him, but it was too close for comfort. overall it was a good wknd. really put the miles on my boots. had alot of bays but only ended with three hogs. pretty satisfied tho. atleast knocked the rust of the dogs. getting really hot and wont be able to run them as much in the summer so i was happy to had a good time. the big boar poked my lead dog. and my lead dog got snake bit aswell. so dogs are gonna be resting for a little bit before i go back out. right at the end of the last morning hunt when i decided to load the dogs up, they left out on a chase and 4 miles later i finally caught them on the highway. had to call a friend to pick me up with his truck.

yeah im pretty sure they killed a mess of them in the thick stuff. and im sure they struck one in the morning right before we left out. it was a fun weekend really wish you and johnf coulda been there, really needed the extra dogs. im glad you crossed bill and ginger again...had a high success rate from the last litter. if you get one like sambo send him my way. mollie did great....i think she was happy to get out after being couped up during her heat. woodrow did well...gets out and hunts still has some pup left in him.
