Had a week to hunt in Texas. Went out with Scott early in the week a few times. Later went over to Bryant's i.e. Bonedigger. Also went out with Scott L (Realdogs), Bryant and Rob on a 17000 acre ranch with a few groups of hogs roaming on it. Got on a 175 lb dog killer with in an hour. Hog cut Niko, broke bay got down into a creek bed and escaped. Later got on another boar about 200 lbs. The Hogs were feeding in a garbage dump spot and the curs caught wind of em. Hog dove in the flood water and swam across to the opposite shore. That particular spot became an island as the roads had been flooded out. A couple of the dogs swam after and were bayed up on the other side. We were pondering awhile trying to figure the best way to get across. Someone suggested someone could swim across if they were stronger enough of a swimmer. I volunteered since I felt I could do it. Took off my jacket (it was 30 something degrees). I left my boots on since I would still have to make my way thru some thick brush once on the other side. Took my knife and headed in the water. Moved out abit on a branch stretched out in the water and then swam for the otherside. I just about got to the other bank when my boots took on more and more water so I couldnt stay afloat. I started going under a few times not sure how many. At that point I knew I couldnt swim against the current any longer and started tryin to signal the other guys I was in trouble. Bryant yelled out "stay calm", angle for the branch sticking out downstream!" So i inched over as i was being pushed down river and reached for an outstretched branch> I got a hold of it, but it wanst that strong. My friend freddy climbed out along the tree and pushed branches toward me that were thicker. I got ahold of those and pulled myself out. I was exhausted and started to get really cold. Bryant built a fire for us and hung wet clothes on stick over the fire to dry em off abit. After drying off some, we went back to the van to change clothes, jumped back on the four wheeler and went back out to get the hog or the dogs. We did get the dogs back evenutally.

Great looking dogs!  I didnt catch one for the first 20 times I went hunting.  It is just a way of testing you to see if you will make a hog dogger or not.

I told you if you came down here hunting to bring some waterwings or a boat!lol  I watched Chuck and a Coon Ass from Morgan City swim a DEEP and WIDE Canal in middle of the night after some of the coldest temps on record.(Which I was conviently recovering from the flu and couldnt risk getting wet, but I called that before we even left for the woods. Smiley)  Then they had to wrestle that little boar with the huge teeth on the other bank which was more of a bluff than a bank.  Needless to say they got it done and the coon ass was sick as a dog, but had a LIFE CHANGING EXPIERENCE and that is what is all about.  Just got to keep hunting.

You guys do this all the time, it's apart of the game.  I accepted this long before I went down there. I think it's the reason I have bulldogs and the old blood at that. Low on self preservation..LOL. Short story, I once had a guy try to rob me. Way bigger than me. I turned around and popped him right in the nose. He leaned over with blood pouring out. I didnt know how big he was til he stood up. Only thing I said was.... I may lose, but your going to rememeber me. Rob has some dang good dogs. Guys looking for alot of hunt would do well to contact him, the two Scott's or Bryant. I never seen anything like that.

I know what you mean.  I am always amazed at the situations I find myself in from hogs and dogs.
