Just saying a quick hello to the forum members. My names Brendan I'm from South West Queensland Australia, in my early 40's and am a full time Kangaroo and Pig hunter, like most country folk I've been hunting since a child. In my spare time I'm an Administrator on Ozziedoggers so some of you who visit there may know who I am. I have been looking at your site and reading a few topics it's always interesting seeing different techniques and opinions from around the world. Great looking site with great content well done to all involved and thanks for letting me be a part of it. Once I work out the photo posting side I will try to post the odd pic of a few pigs and my dogs. Happy hunting, Brendan.

Welcome Brendan.
I've worked with Ozzies off and on for over 16 years now and never met one I didnt like! You guys in general usually have a unique view point on things that I seem to always appreciate, even in the rare times I disagree. I have truly enjoyed other post and stories from your countrymen on this board and am looking forward to yours.

Thanks for the welcome much appreciated. Below is a couple of pics for you of my dogs and the odd pig, once I get my PC back from the repairman I'll post some updated ones, I'm on my laptop at present it only has a couple of pics on it.  Craig, I will do another post after this one with a bit of info on Roo shooting for you, feel free to ask any questions you might have I'll do my best to answer them. Robbiew, If you mean Grant Wells the Bull rider then no sorry I don't personally know him. Again thanks for the welcome all.

This is an old pic 20 years old or so, I put it up as the dog seated on the back is a Bull Arab from that time, a breed that a few seem interested in. The dog laying underneath was a Mastiff x . Both great old dogs who had a long life catching hogs but are at the happy hunting grounds now. Pics below are of a couple of their catches.

Pics below. 1st is Soup he is a Stumpy Cattle Dog, originally bred and used to catch both Wild Bulls and Pigs, he is an old dog now and is semi retired. 2nd Pic is Chuck he is Soups son his mother was a Wolf Hound, sorry no pics of her at present. Chuck is 5 years old and my top dog and my breeding male, stands 28 inches tall and around 80lbs. 3rd pic is Misty, she is a Bullarab with a touch of Dane and is my breeding Dam, stands 26 inches tall and around 70lbs. 4th pic is Dolly she is a Dane x Arab, 2 years old and same dimensions as Misty. Dolly was recently rehomed to a mate who's main dog was getting old but I thought I would throw a pic up anyway for you to look at.

The pics below are of a couple of Chuck and Misty's pups at 12 months old. Some are a bit hairy like the first fella and others short coated like the second pic.

Below a few random pics of dogs and hogs.

Kangaroo Shooting. I'm not sure what info you would like so I will just post some brief info but if you would like to know more ask away I will do my best to answer any questions.

Kangaroo shooting in Australia is a very strictly controlled activity as they are a protected species. In order to shoot roos you need to do a couple of courses and buy a licence set out by both Safe Foods and The National Parks and Wildlife service. Each Kangaroo shot needs to be recorded and tagged with a special tag, strict quotas are placed on minimum weight and species for different regions and states. Most roo shooters use a 223 or a 22.250, all hunting is done at night starting at sunset under a spotlight and all roos must be killed with a single head shot, the range they are shot at depends on the shooter but 150 to 200 yards is normal with some shorter and some longer shots. The carcass is sold to licenced dealers, most dealers work for a large company who pick the roos and pigs up once or twice a week. The majority of roo meat is culled and processed to human consumption standards, the companies take the prime cuts for human consumption most of which is exported to european countries and the rest is minced to go into pet food. Most shooters work 4 or 5 nights a week and others work a normal job and just shoot on weekends for some extra cash. A full time shooter looks to average around the 200 a week over the year but weather etc can affect this, I harvest around 6 to 8000 a year these days but I am a bit more relaxed than 20 years ago. I buy for one of the major companies so that takes a bit of my time as well so 3 nights a week does me. Below is a pic of one of my chillers with 84 roos and 14 pigs ready to be picked up by the truck, this was 2 nights work.
