How long is too much time to give finish dog off.... will they just forget?? I have not hunted my dogs in a few months... I am going this weekend at a hunting club I lined up but, that might be it for a min.

I think the only thing that might play into it, is if the dogs are out of shape and get winded if you get on some runners. Other than that I believe a strike dog will always remember how to finish a track.

It might not be the same thing but I have let coon dogs lay up all summer before and it didn't hurt there ability, so long as they were a couple of years in age. They took a couple of weeks to get back into shape to handle the running but there hunting skills didn't seem to diminish much if any

I believe a FINISHED dog will always have the ability, however layed up for a couple of months = winded dog. I give my dogs exercise huntin season or not. I havent hunted my dog for 3 months at a time and my only concern is his physical shape.

X2 When my dad used to run deer dogs they would sit in the kennel all year long til deer season came around,
