j ust to get some ideas... what do yall think the best way to work dogs is? we usually take a pig a tie him in the woods and let the dog track his trail. i know alot of people also just put dogs in a bay pen but what do you think the most effective way to train is???)besides actually hunting the dogs)

its pretty much the same thing but hide the pig in a small transporter cage so the dog cant put teeth on it if its a bit aggresive.  I have also heard keeping the hide of a dead hog and drag it along the ground in the woods, mark where you walked through with it to know if the dog is following that track, i would put a small pig out there in the cage so he see's that he found something if its a pup. more experienced dogs will already know. just depends if you want your dog to track or wind, or even both

Take a pup out on his own to see what he does ive done that sometimes and some have acutually found pigs taking him hunting is good but dont hunt him too hard when they are young he might get burnt out on it you have to build its confidence.

I work my dogs 2 hours each everyday that I am home. I built a walker using an old rear end out of a chevy. Built a frame welded a few bars on top and presto I have a smaller version of a horse walker. I am about to modify the walker by putting a generator off the pinion gear so it gives a little more resistance for the dogs and it will generate electricity.

Just getting them out with you and letting them see that it's ok for them to wander away from you.
We start ours as pups in a pen then move up to a 50 acre pen but one of the big things is letting them know they can run off...instead of staying under your feet. I don't want to refer to it as taking them for a walk because that brings up images of a park and leash..  but it is a walk in the woods to let them discover their roll in the hunt.

Once they figure out thats what you want from them(to get out and work)  then instinct kicks in and the hunt begins.
