Just talked to my wife's grandfather for the first time... 80 yo Kentucky man who's whole life revolves around his "coondogs" and none of the family understands why...

.... Let's just say we got along fine.... Wink Grin

After 30 minutes of talkin' dogs my wife finally pried the phone away from the old man... just as we was a plannin' a bear hunt.... he says they're makin' a resergence in the area.... Grin

When I asked him if there was any hogs he knew of... he said "no sir"... just cats, coon, and bear.... Sad

.... but they had been treein' a certain cat lately that has been given them the slip each time they get within' a hundred yds... they seem to think it's a cougar....

Sure is neat when you can hit it off with somebody that don't like nobody.... guess dogs "can" be good for somethin'.... Grin

Thats pretty neat. I can sit and listen to the oldtimers tell hunting stories all day. A person can learn a lot that way. Wink

See there,....if you move up there you have an automatic bear hunting buddy. You might make a fine bear man Noah.....stranger things have happened!

Dog men are dog men. We all have more in common than different. Make the move, at least for the time being. Experience something different for a while and soak up all the lore the ole feller has to pass along before he passes and it's lost forever. You can always move back to Florida in a few years.

Stories are the best from the old timers! It really is funny how they dont have much time for you if you dont talk "dog".

Them old times will tell you all you need to know.  All you have to do is sit there and listen.  however most of us young people cant do the most important thing which is shut up and pay attention..

Dog people are awesome...I love to hear the old timers in our family tell their cow/hog dog stories...the man my husband grew up hunting with is just plain out awesome to talk to..

We went by his house the other night looking at dogs for some one and he told one of his puppies to shut up and I said "huh other than you and me/my husband I don't know anyone that knows their individual dogs barks" and his reply was "if you can't tell them apart you have no business owning them!!" And I couldn't have agreed with him more.  I have learned so much off of him and I can't wait fo the cool weather so we can go sit under the Chickee and talk dog/hunting stories!

On a side note me and the hubby get along the best when we are in the woods with the dogs ...there is just something relaxing about it and I would much rather spend my weekends in the woods than in a bar!

I still talk to some old timers as much as I can. When I can find one. Most of the dog men that I grew up with are gone now.So may be I may be getting to be an old timer? But their are still lost of men here on this web site that know more than me. And yes I can tell you wich dog is barking in my yard and my wife asked the same question how do you know.I know my dogs

Mr P I hate to be the one that points it out to you but, you have been hunting hogs with dogs as long as I have been alive. And I have grand kids! Cheesy
Will we ever know it all? If it is possible, whoever really does know it all will never admit to it. Wink
