My bmc got a pretty good gash on his front right leg by his shoulder this morning. I've been watching him close all day and he is keeping it clean. It goes into the muscle on his leg but I don't know if I should staple it or not. I know some guys that staple everything and some that say if the dog can clean it then to let him. What do I do? Thanks

There our two types of pain: The temporary pain of training or the permenant pain of failure. Choose wisely...

Jared, i have always heard that if you dont staple it within 4 hours or so, its pretty much just wasting staples. The way i do mine that get cut like that is leave it open, flush it out everyday and apply wound-kote. If you use the wound-kote, try to let it dry before letting the dog lick it or they will have a purple tongue for a while! and so will your fingers if you get it on them. You work almost right across from TSC, so you shouldnt have a problem finding it!!

My buddies cd just got healed up fom a cut that sounds like in the same spot. Cut all the way into the muscle. We stappled it but he pulled them out and in a month he wa healed up. I'd say let him clean it himself.

If you are going to staple you need to do so withina few hours or else the dead tissue won't grow together anyway,
depending on where and how the cut is made decides if it should be stapled, some heal faster stapled and others do better with hydrotherapy (hard water pressure for more than 10 minutes atleast twice a day) and allowing the dog to lick it himself both stimulate new tissue growth
