What dose everyone thank about  hog hunting  with plotts

Have talked to some guys that hunted plotts real good noses from what I hear but for myself I like tight mouth dogs.

 If you dont mind open mouthed dogs there great. Ive hunted just about every fur bearing animal with them and have a buddy I hunt with that has some decent ones for hogs

i like dead silent dogs. If you find one it is usually jam up. If not good luck buddy.

Me and my partner run plotts. Some have colder noses than others. We mainly run one at a time with the curs I love hearing them bay. I have got some 1/2 parker 1/4 plott 1/4 cur  pups coming along nicely. U will need large tracts if ur going to hunt with plotts

i also run a plott or two along with curs.my lead dog is a plott bitch.she does realy well for me.she can trail run stop and bay all by herself.most of  the time shut them down fairly quick.but there is always a race of somekind.with silent dogs sometimes they bayem right where they findem.good silent dogs with hunt arent easy to comeby in sc.weve got a couple but most bark.just remember if you gonna run an open mouthed dog if its barking it needs to realy move the track when its hot.you want a hound thats running to catch a hog not just run its track.

I use plotts and plott crosses also here in tn.  I love, the right kind of plott,   like was mentioned above,  must run to catch, not just trail.
  I really enjoy listening to a good race, them open mouthed dogs are music to my ears, and yes,   no matter what ANYBODY says, you can catch hogs with hounds. Having said that, i hunt hogs because i love it, and want to, NOT because i have to.  just how i roll      let the bashing begin

well i tell you what, hounds in genaral have been used for a long dang time and i keep getting shafted with my curs, maybe i just need better curs maybe its the land i hunt, maybe the hogs are supernaturaly intelligent who the heck knows but im fixin to make a change and what im looking at is plotts and or parker curs

I brought these guys home on my birthday last month.



3/4 mountain cur and 1/4 Plott. The 2 brindle pups went to one of my hunting buddies and I kept the yellow one. He had a Plott gyp that I really liked. I hope this one turns out. He's just over 4 months old now. I do believe he's gonna be open tho.

From the research I did and the style hunting I most enjoyed, the plott breed seemed to be the best fit. These brother/sister are a year old last week. They are meeting my expectations.  Heavy pocohantas bred.

I got a plot/mnt curr cross in a trade. I started her on hogs. Got her trash broke “finally”. She turned out to be one of the best dogs I ever owned. The problem was that she got gritter and gritter every time out.  She got cut bad three times on three different hunts. She now belongs to the highest bidder. I had to get rid of her before my luck ran out.

It's good to know there are other people that like to hog hunt plotts other then me and a few hunting buddys and if any one has any heat&hammer breed dogs let me knot thanks

This is jewel, crocket and burnside, lots of butch and jill way back. this is the female i just had bred back to a male from the same lines.



This is amber, a young female i just got from a buddy of mine that is getting divorced. havnt sent papers yet, so not sure on what shes out of yet.



This is josie, just got him from the same buddy. he has star mtn., crocket, and pocohontas in PED.



This is one i raised, dont have a name for him yet, but he has cracked every walnut that he can get his mouth on, lol this is the only thing i have left that has any heat blood in it.

I'm with Tom, I love to hear hounds run. I grew up listening to fox dogs run with my Granddad, so it's ingrained in me. I hunted with Plotts for close to 30 years and I must say that most of the super dogs I've known and hunted with were Plotts. Seen them do unbelieveable stuff and been impressed many a time with them. But I now have 2 cur dogs that I hunt right along with my buddie's Plotts, and yes my curs are still silent on track. As far as not catching/killing many hogs with open mouth dogs, we killed 136 hogs in 2 1/2 months in south GA this last season with several Plotts and 4 cur dogs. I think they're a heck of a breed and I love to hunt with them.

I've got a plott gyp that I got from a guy on here.  So far she is pretty quiet, but I only hunt her with cur dogs.  One thing about it, if there was a hog in the area within the last 4-6 hours, she'll find it.  Like someone else said though, she seems to be getting rougher.
