I understand that is is illegal to hood hunt in TX, well if this is true ,why? I was recently told here in OK in a certain county that they are giving tickets for it calling it obstruction of view. well sounds dumb to me, can someone make sense of this for me

hood hunt as in letting your dog stand on the hood and wind hogs?  I've never heard that was illegal?

Could go with the whole "obstructed view" thing if everyone involved was a jerk, as long as it was on a public roadway.
Don't know anyone who hunts on a public roadway though. Can't do crap if your on private property.

Not legal on a public road.  It is unlawful to hunt from a road.  You can hood on private roads.

Hood hunting on public roads would be more like dog surfing? LOL

ITS ILLEGAL ON PUBLIC ROADS, BECAUSE YOUR DOG DOESNT KNOW WHERE IT CAN HUNT.  YOU DO KNOW.  IF YOU HUNT ONE SIDE OF THE ROAD BUT DONT HAVE PERMISSION ON THE OTHER SIDE, YOUR DOG DOESNT KNOW THAT AND HE MAY STRIKE AND HIT THE OTHER PLACE.  ITS JUST LIKE POACHING.  I HUNT ALOT OFF PUBLIC ROADS, BUT WE DONT HOOD HUNT UNLESS WE ARE ON PRIVATE ROADS.

People are complaining about the hogs but then they want to tell us how they should be hunted. I say if you hood hunt make sure you have permission on both sides of the road and you ain't got nothin' to worry bout.

WE WILL SHINE A SPOTLIGHT ON SOME PLACES THAT WE HAVE.  IT IS LEGAL. IF ITS A PLACE THAT WE HAVE PERMISSION ON, BUT CANT DRIVE THROUGH IT TO LET OUR DOGS HUNT WE WILL SHINE OFF THE COUNTY ROAD OR EVEN SOME FM ROADS. I PREFER TO STICK THE DOGS ON THE GROUND AND LET THEM HUNT, BUT SOMETIMES WE CANT DO THAT.  WE DONT CARRY A GUN, SO IF WE SHINE A LIGHT, IT IS LEGAL.

i used to hunt corp land in ne tx which is public, so traveling down the small back roads are still considered public and corp land all around. would it still be illegal to have the dogs wind hogs, from either the hood or the bed? there was a post some months back of a tck with an extra big front bumper area where they would put their dogs and ride the roads, if its an obstruction of veiw to hav them on the hood, a person could build them a dog platform on the bumper and then the dogs are below the actual line of sight so as to not interfere with the frontal veiwing area while driving.

Never heard its illegal to have a dog on the hood but it figures nowdays they will find a way to harass a hog or coon or cat hunter with dogs.  Way round it is to just build a striking rig that folds up on the front bumper, thats how i hunt these terriers, i turn on 4 KC day lighters and shine every one of the lakes and 25 deer feeders we have out for coons and hogs, if its  a small hog or sow i unsnap them from the striking rig, they are too crazy and will jump on a big ass boar if not snaped down, most of the truck hoods are to slanted to hood hunt dogs anymore anyways, used to have a 77 dodge 4x4 with a flat hood that was perfect to watch a yellow cur wind a hog off of US 239 down by the san antone river by Welders or Ochonnors land when they let people hunt it with no problems.  Those were the glory days, I think more people have been arrested on that road than any other place in Victoria county next to that big dirt tank and the grainfeild, we used to custom cut grain from that tank back towards Viduari Refugio on those ranches and there were so many hogs we used to chase them off with the 30 foot wide combine headers like cattle towrds each others combineslol

Rig the dogs on the dog box in the bed,or platform off the front bumper problem solved. We rig our dogs here in N.E. Oklahoma off the box a lot and it works just as good if your not going 50mph, I have used the platform also and it doesn't block any view, plus the radiator heat in the winter keeps them warmer, but to each his own  Cool

I used to go everywhere bobcat and lion hunting in different states, I saw more striking rigs out west especially where they hunting snow ground, I have actually seen plott hounds walkers buleticks that were used too watching for tracks in front of the truck, lots of times they would sigt see the distubance in new snow and bawl or whimper up to 20 t0 50 yards away while we were in 4x4 low range with lockers and wide snow tires and chains and always a front mounted receiver winch if slid off the road or need to pull somebody else out.  I did not like snow hunting at all, it was usally about a lot of wannabees with coon dogs dumping in on other people dog packs and racing to the tree with a snowmobile to claim the lion or bobct for a paid guided hutner that sometimes was not even within 100 miles, they would call the paid sport and tie the dogs back and sit and babysit the cat tree until he arrived and shot the cat, usually not much dog work trailing up a hungary sow and they shoot lil cats too for the $$$ in some place,  Best place to see a dry ground lion hunt is with somebody who has a real strike dog off the rig and has mules in the bed with dry ground dogs, we went on several 2 day tracking hunts sleeping against saddles in sleeping bags with a few dogs in camp held back on leads tied to the mules to help up find the dogs if they outran us and go over a mountin or cutback where we could nto hear or get the mules thru.  I have not tried to go lion hunting in over 10 years so i am sure a lot of states have cut if back or outlawed it completely now or only during the winter with snow, I have seen some lion dogs especilly bobcat dogs from outwest strike bobcats off the font rig at 50 miles an hour.  I never did like the dogs people put on the dog boxes due to lots dotn watch them nd if they dotn open lound and its cold you wont hear them,  I cant remember how many times i loved to watch Lavons blck mouth curs or Billy dont Blevine dogs wind nd whine and try to jump off that old flat powerwagon flat hood, those were glory days kinda.  Now days there are so many hogs you can get on tv with a silent great dane with jewerlylol  Just kidding kinda, but i have seen some of that propganda he put up in the feedstores down here about other hogdoggers doing it wrong with more than 1 or 2 dogs and was not imressed. To each his own....but buy a flashing light and tie it to that great danes tail and a bell to his neck so he wont get killed if he ever runs into dogkillers like we have down here next to the refuge at aransas, heck we got sows with tootheys like lota boars i see sometimes and they still run like deer for miles if they hear a dog bark if they been dogged a lotlol.
