My wife and I went out the other evening to cut a small cedar tree across the road from the house and my cat gyp Kate and cd buddy went with us. We stopped to look at a tree and I got off and left the 4 wheeler running. Kate started barking about 40 yd. away and I figured it was a armadillo or something. When I walked over there she had a sow backed up against a brush pile. They caught her and when I flipped her I saw a hole in her side where she had been shot with an arrow so I just stuck her. I called my neighbor and he said that he had shot her last monday evening and this was thursday evening! She was hit just behind the lungs and the arrow didn't pass through but must have fallen out. She was weak but still able to try to run and put up a fight. My wife wasn't exactly thrilled that we went out to get a tree and got a hog. It just goes to show how tough these animals are to last that long with a hole in her side. I wonder if I hadn't gotten her if she would have healed up and lived?

Yeah, my wife doesn't mind me hunting, but she does when it interferes with our planned time together. She had never seen me kill anything before and that kind of upset her too. That and the fact that I had her get the cd off and hold him and he jerked her down in the mud!

Hogs are tougher than we can even imagine ,I’ve seen hogs mangled up from hi way incidents and still live to raise young. Caught a sow with one foot gone and one leg bent from a break. That’s tough!!

Pigsticker, I was afraid of infection and fever because she had been hurt for several days so we just left her. I have caught one other pig that was injured. It was a little sow about 75 lb. and she had broken her back leg and the bone was sticking out about 2 or 3 inches. It was healed up with a big knot around it and was still loose, the bone didn't mend back together. She was very much alive and well on three legs!
