Please read over the information in this link, and consider writing to your district reps concerning this Texas Puppy Mill Bill. It's coming up for consideration soon and it's gaining a lot of steam in Austin. If this one gets through it's going to put a lot of us in the hurt locker, because anybody that has more than ten intact females and sells a litter will have to be registered with the state and submit to inspections of their kennels. It's worth the read and the few minutes to write. http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/index.php?topic=22541.0

It does not matter if they are purebreds, hunting dogs, the family pomeranian, the kids dogs all are counted in the intact females (MEANING YOUR DOGS ARE NOT SPAYED) and if you keep your hunting partners dogs for them, they count towards your limit, as to call you a "commercial breeder" even if you don't breed but one accidental litter a year
THe langauge they are using will allow them to regulate if the state thinks you are properly taking care of parasites (this means when and what they consider proper medications) don't forget this also includes fleas as parasites.

The thing also to think about is that it takes a lot more to move a Bill into Law than once a Law For it to be amended.

Just my .02, but i deal with laws everyday as a profession and in reading the other post about yalls pending bill this part stuck out..
* Hobby breeders - this includes: (i) breeders who have 10 or fewer breeding females, or (ii) breeders who do not sell the offspring, no matter how many breeding females they have.
If you focus on subsecion (ii) It states "dont sell the offspring NO MATTER HOW MANY FEMALES THEY HAVE"
I can see this being screwed around with and anyone who breeds even one female and sells the litter.. If i was yall i would definately be calling my rep. You guys have the opportunity to shut this down because we all know once it takes hold in one state the rest are bound to follow..

Dexter is 100% correct, i know im not from tx but i'll send $25. The hsus is trying this crap in every state and county, if its not in your county yet, it will be! I know times are tough, but join every dog assoc. you can to help out, get involved, this is how they have accomplished so much already, people think that they will never get something passed, or that it wont effect them, well they are, and have snuck alot of this crap thru and got it passed.
Make the calls, write the letters, sign the petitions, and support the hunting associaion of your choice.
If i can help in any way just let me know
sorry for the rant, just seen what they can do, and gets me all fired up.

Yall are all correct where this is concerned. They are whittling away at pet ownership of all kinds and if we just sit back and do nothing then owning and hunting with dogs will be a thing of the past. Our children and grand children will only read about it or hear us tell stories about it. It's time to gather together and stand up to keep our priviledges and heritage alive. LSWDA is one association that is fighting to keep the ownership of working dogs alive for our future generations. Join us and help keep your priviledges!

This is serious. Although last year, you can see that it was defeated (sort of). You can rest assured that they will come back smarter and harder this next go round. I am with Dexter & Jls41 100%, join the LSWDA and be a part of an organization that will directly fight to ensure that we are heard. Update June 1: The Texas legislature has now adjourned for the 2009 session. This bill did not advance further and is now dead. Update May 13: HB 3180, the Texas puppy mill bill, has now passed the state House of Representatives by a vote of 149-0. A unanimous vote! All it takes is a few minutes of your time. Will you stand up? Or sit by and watch as our rights are stripped away piece by piece... Then complain about it after it’s all gone. Find out who represents you http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/And at least send in a letter. It doesn’t have to be long, it just needs to effectively communicate that you do not want YOUR representative to support this bill and include a reason or two. Here is a sample letter I created by browsing through the WWW. The Honorable (legislator's name) His/her address City, State, Zip Dear Sen/Rep Name: I am writing to ask you please do not support the Puppy Mill Legislation Bill. There are many dog owners in the sporting and hunting community who will be negatively impacted by the legislation. This bill is actively supported by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and I believe that this will set the precedence for them to influence further legislation. Remember that HSUS’ President, Wayne Pacelle, told the Associated Press, “If we could shut down all sport hunting in a moment, we would.” HSUS spends $120 million a year to lobby and litigate against hunters and animal owners. Pacelle understands that an outright hunting ban is not realistic today so his group practices incrementalism. He will take it piece by piece and he has said so publicly. Thank you for your support. Sincerely, You’re Name Your Address Please note: You MUST include your name and address. Your legislator won't pay much attention to what you have to say if this information isn't included--if your letter even reaches his / her desk.

Great job got2catchem!! With this letter, you can add to it. Now all any of you has to do is put in your contact information and email and/or fax it in. This has got to be a group effort before our voices are heard in Legislation!!

and the profile picture on their page is a hunter and his lab. I suppose that lab came from a shelter? typical bs hypocrisy from yet another bs organization. What aggravates me the most is that when you come after them with facts that you can back up they fold and won't talk anymore. if anything they just spout more bumper sticker slogan at ya.

just like on facebook the other day, once specific laws that already cover the subject get mentioned, and links to real facts and information get posted the next thing you see is well that's enough discussion for now we'll post an update when the bill gets to the legislature. just admit you were losing an argument and you don't want to play any more.
