Kyle and myself took off at 7am this morning went to one place no hogs went to another place no hogs went to another place and we ran into Mr. Hog Steroids ! Whitey,Tank,Horn and Jr on the ground it sounded like WW III broke loose in the woods . They were a ways from us so it took a little bit to get there and just as we did wouldn't U know it he breaks but we both saw him and this hog look like a Volks Wagon he was big and black and all we could see was white in his mouth so who knows how big his tusk were. He broke and we musta run him 4-5 miles till finally we lost him ! Whitey and the rest of the dogs were all there and had his big butt bayed we just could not get there fast nuff and the dogs stuck like super glue to him threw out most the race he just got lucky but Am here to tell you I have seen many of them like that and their luck don't last forever noting is forever !
This Boar was easy over 300 lbs and I have caught a ton of them 275 to 290 and he was way bigger.
Am not sure I would have turned just one Bulldog loose on this Bad Boy I just don't know if one would have stopped him he looked like a two are three bulldogger to me !
If you just had one bulldog would ya ll have turned him loose on a Boar hog like this ?
Till we meet again Big Boy !

Yes absolutely.. We've caught numerous 350+ boar hogs with just one bull dog.. And our current biggest boar at 375# was with a 45# little CD

Even if I was not leading a catchdog, I would have laid hands on him if given the opportunity.

Am a shooter myself, I have used bulldogs before but not that much most the time I shoot over my dogs and before that I always had some very ruff dogs that would have been on him like a bunch of bee's walk in and leg him. Just this last couple of years been breeding down the catch in my dogs not the grit but catch to get the snatch'em in the backend sitting down hold'em till I can get there. Got tired of all the vet bills and all the playing Doctor every week seemed like. Well he would have been a caught sucker then is all I got to say just didnt have a bulldog with me . Got one coming this weekend close to 90 lbs and a darn good one so he will get his chances around here thats for sure might run with two of them. That was a might big boar hog . The dogs I had done their jobs well my fault he is not on the wall are kickin up daisiys .

A good many dogs (and practically all of mine) will catch with the bulldog. I hunted with a single bulldog for a long time. Then one day several years ago I found myself on a hunt with all older dogs that would roll off a hog. We bayed a group of hogs, sent the bulldog and once he caught all the curs rolled out on the group leaving the bulldog alone. Two hunting partners and myself watching this dog getting slung through the air like a ragdoll while we were trying to get a hand on a leg, until finally the hog knocked the bulldog off on a tree and hauled tail. There's no telling how many big hogs Zeus has been on alone, but from that day forward I've always hauled at least two.

I understand you have faith in your bulldogs and would feel safe about turning just one loose on a big bad boar with teeth like this. But why would you just turn one out when its not much more to feed two and have some help. Two will have alot more power than one man.jmo

Didn't realize that was the question...1 vs. 2. I thought the question was: would you turn a single bulldog loose on that type hog if the situation arose...

I would sent him in BUT the group we hunt with pretty much makes it a point to always send in at least two CD's into every bay. I have to tell yeah ,,,,,we've been really lucky with the lack of damage the CD's have taken over the last couple years. The worst a CD has gotten torn up was this summer when I sent mine in and the other person wanted to hold back on his for some reason. We like nice clean bays with fewer curs (2-4) and then overwhelm them with catchdog power.

Depends on the siutation with the hog.
I always turn two myself. Im different than most people and depending on the situation but will not go to the woods without two catch dogs. If we are split I asses the situation. If I think I need more help....I wait.
I hunted several years with just one bulldog and have taken a lot less damage with two.
Agree with cull buck...I prefer 2-4 (preferable non gritty) bay dogs and 2 catch dogs. Its not any better than any other method but the only way I will hunt.
