I got a little long winded on this one.  I apologize.  At least my post title isn't gay like the last one.
 Grin

lchunter(average size Logan), 3-Bdogs(Brett), and myself decided to hunt the Cuero Contest this past weekend.  Brett's little brother, Cade and my fiance's cousin, Little Logan served as our dog handlers.

Average Size Logan and myself started off Friday while Brett was on his way home from snow infested Fort Worth.  We turned out ol Chunky nuts and Brett's dog Reba.  After 5 minutes of roading, both dogs opened up.  Average size Logan had seen several 100 pounders scatter while Chunk and Reba worked things out.  They finally settled in and Average Size Logan demanded to send my bulldog, so we could catch the 100 pounder they had bayed and move on to another part of the property.  I sent UDR Comet by herself since Average Size Logan was so confident that we had a 100 pounder bayed up.  Reba and Chunk are both very loose baying.  Comet caught while Average Size Logan and myself worked our way through a cactus patch to find Comet anchored on a good boar hog while Chunk and Reba bayed.  The boar saw Average Size Logan and tried to throw Comet and run, but didn't move more than 2 steps.  I have used Comet for a couple of months and have caught several hogs with her, but she proved herself to me on this boar.  The boar threw her straight into the air when he saw Average Size Logan, but she stayed anchored to the ear and regained control of the hog when her feet reached the ground.  I legged the hog, Average Size Logan knifed him, and Little Logan and Cade carried out our cactus infested coveralls.

Average Size Logan and the 208 pound gutted boar

Being a contest weekend, we regrouped and hunted another 2 hours on the property.  We didn't have any luck, so we loaded up and went to another place.  It was give or take 17 degrees Friday night.  After an hour or so of miserable 4wheeler riding on the 2nd place, we called it a day and headed home to rest and warm up.

Saturday morning, we headed to what we thought would be a honey hole.  After covering most of the property in about 6 hours without a bark, we loaded up and headed to lunch.
Brett, Average Size Logan, and the dog handlers.

After a $5 Dairy Queen special, we headed to a property that Brett has that backs up to a small place that I have on the river.  We hunted Brett's side first.  Cade, Little Logan, and myself stayed back with the bulldogs while Average Size Logan and Brett got the dogs started in the direction we thought the hogs might be.  Apparently while we were moving the bikes up, all heck broke loose.  I dumped a couple of fresh dogs to the commotion and within 10 minutes, Brett, Average Size Logan and the dog handlers had 4 hogs down.

We marked the hogs on the GPS, regrouped, and headed back down river to a block of woods on the river before heading out.  After a small loop in a bend of the river, we headed to back to the truck.  On the way to truck, I suggested we hit my little spot.  I told Brett that within 6 minutes, we would either be in hogs or we would head out.  My dog handler, Little Logan made a small loop before sending old man Happy into a block of dried blood weeds.  Old man started hammering and hogs scattered everywhere.  Happy and Cheese and Average Size Logan's Snuff dog settled in a decent boar.  Little Logan and myself worked our way to them and watched the dogs work from 20 yards for a few minutes.  We sent in Average Size Logan's bulldog and a game bred pit that I have been hunting to seal the deal.  The little pit, Omi hit first.  With Omi on one side, Happy on the other side, and my 8 month old pup Cheese on the snout Shocked, I legged the hog while Little Logan dispatched him.

While we were killing the boar, Brett ran a good sow down on the 4wheeler and bear hugged her to the ground while his dog handler Cade brought him a knife.  The dogs rolled out and ran a good sow to about 250 yards.  She broke and ran up the hill to Average Size Logan.  He was hollering for bulldogs, but we couldn't hear him with all the commotion.  The sow broke one more time for about 50 yards before settling in right where we caught the boar.  Little Logan and I sent bulldogs and worked our way though some thick briars to kill the sow.

We got dogs to a water tank and started rounding up our days catch.

Truckload of hogs

After hunting one more spot on Sunday morning with no luck, we loaded hogs and headed to Cuero.  Our two boars weighed 208 and 180.  One of the sows we caught weighed right around 200.  She was a true TOAD.  She was full of pigs that would have hatched with a day or two.  After gutting her, she was 138.  We got 4th place and won almost enough money to cover entry fees, fuel, and food.  It was a great weekend for the dogs and great time for us.

Tired Hombres on the way home....

We often have 2 Logans on the same hunt.  My fiance's cousin Logan is 15 and to avoid confusion, we call him Little Logan.  lchunter was "Big Logan" for a hunt or two until some smart guy in our group realized that 5'10" 190 pound lchunter is not big but simply average sized.

DE,

What weight won it this year?  Any really big hogs? Any locals place high? Just curious as it is always hard to get results from that contest.

And FYI.....I'm traveling out east this weekend for a hunt or two.

Durett from Gonzales won it & some guys from Victoria (I think) took second. There wasn't as big of hogs weighed in as expected.

236 gutted weight won the biggest hog jackpot
I think around 630 pounds on 3 gutted hogs won it
Payout seemed small & there was no meat donation...kinda disappointing.

Thanks for clarifying my info & Congrats to you other guys for placing. When I said I was disappointed, I was talking about the lack of meat donation more than anything.
