Coon Hunt

Lone Star Working Dog Association has been in the works of getting an AKC sanctioned Coon Nite Hunt and Bench Show up and running in May or June. We already have the sanctioning by AKC, $500 added money, and a Master of Hounds judge willing to donate his services!! We are also going to provide a non-sanctioned hunt for grade dogs as well. If any of you would be in...terested in helping us out, please let me know!!

Update: We have some nice prizes being donated by sponsors, and could use more, if you have potential sponsor interested in donating to make this event that much more succesful please let us know!
We will also be looking for Guides to take out casts for this event.

Also wanted to post about our meeting with the Coon Hunters of Gonzales Cnty. It was my first Coon Hunt ever, Had a blast, met some great people and dogs!

Started off by Harry, Eric and I meeting up with Mr.Maeker and friends, to have a nice dinner and tons of information exchanged. I really got an education on Coon Hunting competitions, so much that my head is spinning! Then We headed out to a Property outside Flatonia and prepared the dogs, Tom, Dixie, Ice, and Tater all Black & Tan hounds.

I like it!  I would like to bring my little dogs to this if it all works out.  How far did they trail that coon before they treed?  I will talk to Noah Powell too, he is a big time coon hunter up in Leon County and he has a lot of contacts in the coon hunting world and is or was on the board for the Texas State Coonhunters Assoc.

Matt, That would be awesome on all counts, contacts and participation, the more folks that participate the more fun we are all gonna have!

When they turned the dogs loose the went a good peice, not sure how far, we loaded up and drove within about 350 yd. then had to get in the brush to go to them, They treed on a live oak on the creek and had a hard time trying to see a coon, I learned alot, the moon was bright that night and said the boars are chasing sows, then with the thick leaves in that huge tree, I never did see the sucker, was told its better on a dark night to find them.
Then the second tree was about another 300 yds. away, again I looked and looked , and looked never saw the coon, they finaly got him to look, (both coons) It took foever for me to spot him. One jumped the tree and the one pictured they went ahead and shot out so we could see all different scenarios. But I have to admit, I was skeptical that there was any coons in any of those trees! I won't doubt those hounds again, they were awesome and LOUD!

This is going to be some great fun!!  Wished I was close enough I could of gone with ya'll, but I will definitely be there for the sanctioned event!!

Love those black and tan hounds, but I may be partial to black and tan... I don't have a coonhound, but I have a ruby sue and a greyhound who would love to be in a bench show!
