why is it that you guys over there prefer to use a pickup bed rather than a flatbed?

i had a pick up bed on my little truck but found the wheel arches stopped me from loading my 4wheeler. the dogs seem to be able to work a lot better from the flat bed too.

man i like that i am going to build something like that when and if i get a small truck but make the boxes removable and make sides that will come off that away if i do want to carry something and contain it it will be easier.  Do u add anything for the dogs in cold weather with it being of the back of the bed instead of the frount?  i like the idea just wandering

I like your setup on that truck. I have 4 ranch/hunting trucks all with flat beds and some type of dog box. They are far superior than a standard bed for hunting as well as working out of. I have one set up yhay is close to yours with the box at the back and the front open for the winding dogs and it works very well for me.

Prefer  a flat bed to hunt out of or polaris ranger, but have a pickup with bed to haul dogs and ranger to hunting spots.

Here is our flatbed

Mrs Lisa, your rig looks like it's straight out of Australia and I like it!

I have spent a lot of time (years)  between Darwin and Perth slick. You folks sure know how to put together a hunting rig down under.

A tray bed ute is hard to beat!

Thanks alan, we have enjoyed hunting out of it, but nothing like hunting from the saddle, from what I heard. Grin

Yeah but when it's hot you just can't beat a hunting rig and casting dogs from it. It's rapidly getting to be that time of year again.

thanks for the comments guys. it was going to cost nearly 3grand to buy a new tray so for about 2/3 of that price i was able to buy all the steel and get myself a new 200amp mig welder and do it myself, i also made it an extra 8" long to give me a bit more room for fuel cans and spare tyres. i dont worry about any cold weather stuff beause in north queensland if it gets below 50 its considered a cold snap so the breezier the better round here. the crate can come off by undoing just 4 bolts and there is a centre door so the dogs can run the length of the crate or split them up. all the doors are removable by opening them then lifting them off, that way you can load the bike on, take the doors off and still hunt. some places i go it can be a good 50 miles from when you get through the front gate to the house so it helps if you can hunt from when you get on the property.
