have any of you guys raised show pigs with your hog dogs around? I just built a 5' tall pig pen for the little hamp my daughter just got for ffa. I built it 5' high to hopefully keep these darn cats from getting to him.  I usually have a couple dogs out for protection around the house and saturday was the first day with the new pig and wow what a day. the dogs cant tell the difference and if givin a second the pig would be dead Grin my question is do you think i can break them off of this hog without screwin them up on wild ones? I have the dogs kenneled when i am not around now. what do yall think?

I've done it.  My hounds would not even bark at a show hog when it was all over with.  It took a little bit of training to get them to understand they were off limits though.  When dealing with catahoulas you're going to have a hard time though.  Most cats climb or jump 5' fences with ease.  My hounds do not clear fences on their own.  It is impressive to see catahoulas clear them like they were never there.   Good luck.

I have em too for my son for 4-H. i keep dogs kenneled and chained up. some pups and other dogs run around yard and when they start barking at them the hog dogs go crazy and bulldogs have broke chain or tore kennels up gitn to them and have killed a few of mine. the bulldogs r the only ones i gotta worry bout killing them so i keep em on better heavy duty chains so maybe they won't get off no more? I thought bout putting an electric fence around the hog pen? That should work huh? If your kids will remember to turn it off is the thing i worry about  Shocked  don't know if i could train them jugheads(pits) to leave them pigs alone  Grin

out of sight out of mind we keep hogs around alot at the house, but if the dogs dnt see it they dnt worry about it. kinda funny to sit there and watch them wind though.

I have added to the top of my pen to almost 7 ft and my male BMC, has to be in his kennel or on a chain, he cannot be loose at all or he will jump the fence and get at the hogs I keep.  I'm not sure what he would do with with show hogs. He has no interest in horses, cattle, or goats. Good luck with the show hog.

My dogs run loose and we keep show pigs here year around for the kids! Dogs don't bother them! When the kids walk the hogs and the hogs don't want to go back to the pen I let the pups put alittle heat on them and they get to there pens in a hurry!

Is she showing Liberty or east motgomery!
