DC and I dropped South for a hunt and got out of the rocks for a change.   The brush was much thicker and thorny!

About 15min into the morning hunt the bay dogs steam rolled a good sow that made for a first quick hog.

Then we set out for a few hours of walking and roading with NO sign of hogs.

After a short brake (The Denniss had to leave for work) the land owner and I changed locations and tried again.

After 20min or so we were about done when Ginger left out on the GPS and hit somthing around 800yards out.   We drove there on the mule and she traveled about a mile on the GPS and then set up bayed.

From 350yards I turned Twinkle and Poco to her and walked the catchdogs in.

I went to them and from 10yards(couldnt see a thing) cut Pickle out.  She went through the brush like a wedge.

I got there to see the hog blow out of a brush pile into a small opening.   Pickle had swallowed the ear and was getting bucked but holding tight.  She set back and anchored him very well.

Babe my new catchdog was getting in the action so I put her on the other ear.  That is when I noticed Poco was not holding becuase his leg was bleeding very bad.

when I saw that the fun was over.  I made quick work of the hog and focused on Poco.  It took a while (I need a new hunting shirt) but I got the bleeding stopped. Carried him back to the mule and got him sewn up. He should be ready for the woods again in no time.

Here is the fat porker:

He was like a 150lb hog on a 120lb frame....LOL  These hogs dine out of the Creep feeder for the calfs.  I guess that is why he was so healthy!

Teeth?  I dont see no Teeth?

Here is Poco ready for the ride home

The hog didnt have any teeth so I wasnt expecting any damage but I guess Poco was thinking the same thing.....LOL

i noticed that that hog's front leg is pretty torn up......and u said poco cut cut up pretty good even though the hog didnt have much for teeth...the reason im bringin this up is because i started noticing the same two things with the hogs i was catchin and one of my dogs......now im not sayin this is the problem he's cut at all...just an educated guess.........he looks pretty rough, i have a dog looks just like him body and head wise cept hes yellow and he is rough as hell gets in their face and usually puts a tooth or two in.........I started realizing that my dog (red) kept gettin cut on his legs and the frontz of his shoulders by pigs that you wouldnt think would cut a dog.........then i started realizin that most of those pigs had their front leg all but torn off........finally i got into the bay fast enough to realize that my suspicions were right and that my dog was gettin cut cuz he was always hittin the front leg and leavin himself exposed..........anyway i thought id let you know what happened to me and maybe it'll help you out..............I eventually figgured out how to stop it. i put him and 2 other dogs in a bay pen with a 150lb sow and put a shock collar on his neck.......i made sure not to use the collar until he actually had his mouth on the leg and i wouldnt hold it down, i'd do it just enough to get him to back off........believe it or not it worked out just how i hoped and now i dont have maimed pigs or cut dogs........if this is ur situation i hope it helps you out, if not i hopefully it will help someone........good luck and happy huntin. I have seen that wound on a few dogs before, and two of them I got on film when it happened. The hog bit down on the dog and would not let go until flipped. The hogs had small teeth but still did some damage. Just some food for thought James.
