I have ran a few here at home with open mouth hounds, I'm no lion hunter but here is the only advise I have for ya, wait until it has a full belly cause the only one I ever put up had eatena huge chunk out of  a kid goat 30 mins before the others out ran my dogs and jumped into thick nasty rough country and pulled ahead of us and we never caught up and it was a long night a few times.

I bet there are some lion hunters here that will be able to help ya, I'd like to see some pics if you do

My Plott Catahoula crosses will run a cat. My straight Catahoulas have never shown any interest. What kind of country is this cat in?

Waylon is right you want to run them after a feed and up hill.

Find a feller in your country with some sure nuff bobcat dogs and sweet talk him into bringing them, you won't be sorry you did, let his hounds strike and tree it, then turn them curs out right before it trees to take the credit  Cheesy  It's a different game than baying hogs  Cool

I start mine on wild farm cats or town cats which ever I trap them then turn loose and get the dogs trailling might try that a time or two before u go usaully dont take a good dog long to figure it out good luck and better hope it is a tom and not a mother the females can get pretty rough when she has kittens around at least in my experinces thats usaually when I get my dogs tore up

Im not doubting you cant run one...but the likelyhood of those people actually seeing a long tail cat is not very...especially more than once.

If it was doing that much damage to their calves and they see it that often, why would they not have shot it already??  Huh?

Since you are using hog dogs don't release all of them at once. A lion race can and will last hours
Do not use catchy dogs either, lions will wreck dogs in the open.

Go to the other forum, the big game forum, there are some straight cat dog packs in Oklahoma, somebody will prob come out and check tracks, usually 1 in 10,000 sightings is a actual lion, have you got pictures of tracks it left??  Any pictures??  Down here the deal with lions is straight  bobcat dogs that dont run anything especailly coons, lions dont have much wind if jumped, usually the deal is finding one in the area while hunting bobcats accidentally, once jumped down here they usually never run over 30 minutes to a hour depending on your cat dog pack, you might get lucky with cow or hog dogs if you were horseback and jumped it accidentally around a feedsite, sounds like a old worn out toothed sowcat or a whipped off tom lion or some dumb cub, i would bet its a town dog pack, most reports down here never pan out seems like, have you ever been to the big game dog forum??  There are prob lot of running walker dog packs around you, its just about over down here in south texas where i am at  Hunted with Joe Rufus Lyne, he had about 12 running walkers, million acres to hunt here and in Mexico with tons of time and money, he hunted 5 times a week every week, used to go with the auction barn owners who still had cat and lion packs down US 59 from George West to Laredo and into Old Mexico along the river and then in some where the mexican steers were bought, too dangerous to go down there any more, i think there prob more lions in mexico now in Tamps than ever since so many game ranches have gone in, Jojn Lott down here at Beeville, the other livestock owner used to cat and lion hunt tons as well, I hunted with Joe 3 years i guess before he died, usually he caight 2 to 10 lions a year and 200 bobcats depending on rain and new places to hunt, took terriers many times with those hounds for thick brush and extra treeing power, but held them back until jumped, glory days are gone gone now, last time i heard anything from Joe Rufus Lynee he was sending or about to send a couple of dogs to Rocky Mcbride, that lion hunter for the tv shows and preadtor contol hunter for the mexican cattlemans association, he is out in Alpine and owns the leghold trap plant out there and still does lion hunting on damage control, or was last i heard anything from them, they always went out and scounted if they got a lion kill call, usualy a dog or natrual cuases seemed like, but ya never know, last time somebody called his house about a lion it was a woman near his house and the lion was in a oat patch chasing stocker sick pen calves, weird for sure, ya never know, all of our country has been chained and stacked down here, few lions get shot by deer hutners but no place to hunt them year around, good luck if you need the link to that site post up and i will go find it, you might get lucky with your hog dog pack, everyting dog has treed lions at one time or another, but some do it regularly all of the time, hounds are tops
