i gotta pup that i run with the older dogs and hes goin to be a catch dog when he gets it down but he keeps trashing on other stuff sometimes like rabbits coons anything that runs really... how can i break him of this

I dont mean to be a smart a$$ by stating the obvious but shock collars seem to be the ticket for trash breaking

your not by any means... i have always had walking catch dogs and now im trying to have a runner too so i dont know awhole lot about it.. i know a buddy i hunt with has a runner and i take my walker and its always nice to have that back up ya know.. any advise is great avise

I got one I'm starting too , I just make sure mine broke off cows deer an horses the rest I can work on but shock collars are the way to go

i had a bmc once he was as hard headed as i have ever seen a dog  when i was trash breakin him whem he was young he use to hate nutriea rats everydam time i turned him out if he had to go hunt lomg range for a hog he would stumble across a rat and kill it . i started smacking him around with the rat and it worked after a few times he was a hog dog only

all my RCDs werent trash broke, they never tried to catch anything else, i started them early in a pen and after they got whooped in the pen they knew what they hated the most

x2...make sure the RCD is broke off of livestock because he can sure ruin your day if he isn't...and get you kicked off of the land faster than anything and probably everyone else for eternity... Grin

Make sure the dog knows what you are wanting him to get on. By this I mean show him a few pigs and get him interested in them. If he is a young dog and hasn't seen many pigs then be careful using an e collar on him to break him right now, you may just make him not want to hunt at all if your not careful. JMO

see thats where im stuck.. he's only 6 months old and has seen only two pigs get caught.. and like u said tmatt if got onto he might not wanna hunt at all

x2, pup needs to know it is ok to be in the woods first as well as it is hog you want...before e collar...
