The question I have for you fellas is I have a couple friends that hunt with me but they smoke cigaretts everytime I let my strike dog out to work a track at a water hole. My dog will be trying to work a track while we walk around the water hole looking for sign  and they are smoking. Will this hinder the dogs picking up a scent at all or does it even matter. Thanks in advance

It should not affect the dog other than 2nd hand smoke inhalation. Yes, dogs can suffer negative effects from it as well. But feel free to tell your buddies they can't smoke around you, as it is bad for your dog.  Wink

I have dropped hounds while they were doing a controlled burn. It was very smokey, but we still caught hogs. A couple cigs, ain't a big deal.

Man, i smoke like one after another and it doesn't effect mine.  I think my dogs smoke too.  Cutter before you comment I am actually in the middle of trying to quit.  I need all the help i can get.  Ive got a patch on, a dip in my mouth, and still need a smoke.  Dang, it's hard but I'm trying to whoop it.

Believe right now I would use the burn ban excuse. One of my land owners seen someone smoking I would more than likely be out of there.

Thanks for the comments fellas. I figured it would not be that big of an issue.
Tuskhog- you are definitely right about a land owner seeing someone smoking on his property getting pissed about it considering how dry it is out here and one of the places I hunt is a Prairie Chicken Perserve ran by the government.

If a dog cant track because of someone smoking then you need to have a sit down about the dog in question.

I dont have to worry about the dogs fellas, if a hog is around they will be found Grin. We caught a big bad boar at one of the water holes with the guys smoking, I will post pics soon, I was just wondering if it could hinder a dogs performance. Thanks for your input fellas.
