I have a five month old male Catahoula pup that is coming along great in every way. He is out of some great blood and is conformationally correct in every way except that his testicles never dropped yet. The vet said at six months if they hadn't dropped that he would need surgery to castrate him because of high cancer risk. Has anyone else ever had a male pup take this long or longer for his testicles to drop ? I hate the fact that i might have to get him fixed because other than this he is a perfect specimen of a Catahoula and I was hoping to breed him eventually.

I'd give him a year, no sense rushing, but if it aint dropped by then, i'd have him neutered.

Had a dog that neither one dropped ever andhe lived a perfectly fine and happy life. Gator died at eight years old and while that may have been extended a bit by having him nuetered, I just never had the money when he was young. You can do it if you want and it wouldn't hurt a bit, but don't let anybody scare you into it.

Mine are 5 months also and both have a set look about the size of a complete peanut, definatley noticable. i have heard that an undropped testicle has a high risk of cancer, dont know why or how but was told that by a vet tech, not a vet.

you need to find you another vet preferably one with an ultra -sound and have a look inside . never nueter anything without a second opinion . an ultra sound will let you know what to do . vets are way to quick to spay and nueter. that is one good lookin catahoula i would do every thing possible to keep him in tacked . keep us posted on the results .
