It was funny I was hunting one night and heard a dog coming through the field right to me. I shined my light to see which dog it was but could not see real good. It did not click that I did not see the eyes reflect even though I knew it. I almost got run over and started to laugh. It was so close that if I had clicked to not seeing the eyes I could have stuck him as he went by.

People's eyes reflect in pictures too. I did not read the whole thing but I thought it was the rods in the back of the eye. If they are longer they reflct more light and give better night vision but reduce color vision. Shorter does not reflect the light as much giving poorer night vision but better color vision. But that is just what I was told as a kid and never worried about it. I was told that pigs have many things like people and the eyes are one of them. They see colors and have about the same night vision. They just have better smell and hearing. But never spent much time thinking about it.

Just know if something is running at you at night and you don't see the eyes it might just be a pig.

not sure why the question was ask why a hogs eyes dont shine at night, but i passed my headlamp across the hog i got and his eyes shined. with hogs being nocturnal, shouldnt the eyes shine, just as deer, dogs, cats, goats, and so on?
