went out after work. I thought i would just kick the dogs out on a honey hole and head home. walked down the creek about 200 yrds from the truck and turned em loose. made a circle and went back to the truck. My dogs hit a track when almost back I thought they were running a deer because my only deer broke dog came back. I go back to the truck to wait im under a bridge its almost to dark to see. I wait and wait no dogs so i get my valley creek light out(supposed to have a full charge) and go to catch my dogs. I'm in really hilly thick timber. I walk down the creek a ways and hear the dogs baying it could only be a hog the way they are going at it. its only a few hundred yrds from the truck. couldnt hear them before because the traffic going over the bridge. i get to them its full dark. I shine my light and think its a cow for a min. no its the biggest hogzilla I have seen in person I have to crawl in the brush pile  the two baying dont catch just bay unless my other dog is there i left her in the box wen i went to find them. I take out my pistol and try to shoot it . I am about 15 ft from this huge pig it has a generous amout of cutting utensils. I'm up on a log I squeeze the trigger it pulls but no boom. I jack out a shell and try again no boom. it then breaks the bay and heads up the hill i run until my lungs feel like bursting and my legs are jelly just following the bay i am way in them hills before they get it stopped again. im almost there and my light starts dimming quick. I hit a logging road on a ridge about the time the light goes out. i turn it off  and run to the dogs I have just enough time to turn the light on real fast and try another quick shot ( I fiddled with the gun while running) I shoot and bang the gun goes off the hog takes off about 100 yrds and bays again the dogs stop barking after 15 minutes. I am in thick timber that i get turned around in during the day time, no light very little cell signal. I get one call through to a buddys voicemail and the phone starts beeping low battery. its pitch black not even a moon I start feeling my way in the direction i think the truck is. when i drop off the hill im on i klnow my cell signal is history. So I turn it off to conserve the battery. at one point im am inching along and get a weird feeling and get out my phone and turn it on to use the light im on a bluff two more steps and i would have fell about 12 feet or more . I hear the thu thunk of a car crossing that bridge im parked under I keep inching my way toward where i heard the sound two hrs later i step on an old paved driveway over grown with grass but i can feel it under my feet i just followed it until it ended and stopped by some sort of shed but no house i just stood there and then i heard a car coming. I was standing 50 yrds down hill from the hwy. I was still a ways from my truck but i eventually saw a sign i knew and made it to my truck. I guess there is a dead hog in the woods some where out there I am going to look for it in the mrning if i can find where i was it had some good cutters and it was the biggest pig i've ever bayed i bet it was four five hundred it was yearling hiefer size. I promise this really all happened im not joking.

sounds to me like a hellish night, might i suggest making sure someone knows where you are, charge your phone and light alittle better, clean your gun so it wont misfire, tho cleaning it wont ensure it will fire, and always have a battle buddy

good luck tryin to find that sucker, hope for success and pics

Yes. All of the above has happened to me at one time or another. Just not all in the same hunt.   Grin

it seems that when your not really prepared those things happen everytime. i like it when we forget a camera, or tie rope or knife, cause i always think we will do good. but try to at least keep tracking collars on the dogs so you can always get to them. hope you find him..

didn't find pig couldnt pinpoint the spot i was at. I thought the dogs would take me if i got in the general area. Unfortunately they bayed a pig on the way that distracted them. So maybe I will find it while hunting sometime soon. It was a huge pig would have liked to weigh it.

LoL that's jacked up. We hunted in Carta Valley one time, the guys that invited me said they knew the ranch and this was before garmin. Well we ran a group of hogs over and over dogs just kept rolling out. We must have walked 4 miles and crossed numerous mountains and couldn't find our way back. Killed the last hog at 10pm didn't get back in the truck till 5 am. LOL felt like that car commercial pushing my unlock button to hear my truck. It was truly a cluster that night.
